Box Sets - what MUST we watch next?

DH quite like to have a box set on the go, some good TV to fall back on, but don't know what to buy next.

We've just finished Entourage- hated the first episode or two of season 1 but hung in there and loved it.
Dexter- DH really like it but I wasn't so keen, don't think we finished season 1
The killing - enjoyed first few episodes, but we're not addicted.

So, what else should we buy? What should I add to our list to watch next?

Madmen is fabulous.

I am partway through Prison Break. Wasn't keen on the sound of it, but DH and DS forced me and it's brilliant.

Gray's Anatomy (oh, how I love that)

Damages - edge of your seat stuff.

I have heard great things about Dead Like Me and Six Feet Under. Have ordered them both off amazon for Christmas.

Not another box set! I've got Netflix and It's fabulous! loads of films, documentaries and TV series. First month trial is free then it's £6 a month, I absolutely love it! So much choice on there and I've really enjoyed getting round to watching classic films, period dramas, newish films that I'd either always meant to watch or never heard of, lots of good comedy TV series on there as well. Well worth looking into

DH & I watch a lot of Box sets! Our favourites that we return to time & time again are Supernatural, Bones & Castle. They're great because there's quite a lot of them IYKWIM, you would have plenty to watch and catch up on to the ones currently airing. I also second PP who said Grey's Anatomy. House is another good one too; although it can get a little repetitive Hugh Laurie is just so good in it. All of those they are still making so you know they must be good; the big studios do not continue to option series' that aren't getting the ratings.

If you fancy something funny Big Bang Theory is an absolute must. 24 is good too and I hear excellent things about Homeland. We quite liked

No valium - DH has no patience for subtitles and I have a soft spot for Gabriel Byrne. But I will look out for it and see if I can cajole him. I had to IMDB it about three episode in, I knew something that good couldn't come out of the usual US studios

Prison Break: Gets a bit stupid by Season 3, in the same way that 24 did in the later seasons (X the double, triple, quadruple agent- you know who I mean)

Definitely The Wire- two tips. One: put the subtitles on in English till you get used to the accents. Two: Season 2 is a bit crap but push through it as you need the background to appreciate Seasons 3-5 which are great.

Oh yes HOMELAND!!!!

Bella it is SO good that you forget they it's subtitled after a bit. I have only seen it on SKY arts channel at stupid o'clock in the morning, can't find it on dvd. It is much grittier than the US version and if you have a soft spot for GB than I think you'd be drooling at the guy in Be Tupil (in treatment) not an obvious heart throb but there is something about him for sure

I'm still on season one of PB, but I watch TV so seldom and so sporadically that I may never make it to season 3!

I agree House is a great concept, but honestly, after you've seen one episode you've seen 'em all. I gave up after series one.

I bought my DH the Wire for Xmas a couple of years ago after everyone on MN (and the world generally) raving over it. He watched two episodes, declared it was crap, and he couldn't see the picture properly and couldn't understand a bloody word anyone was saying. We sold it on Ebay.

I am reading Caitlin Moran's new book and she raves over the BBC Sherlock. I usually ignore all the MNers who go on about it (I think they have dodgy motives involving Benedict Cumberbatch as a sex object) but I think I might give it a go on Caitlin's say-so even though she has dodgy motives involving BC as a sex object.

House - seen a few odd ones on tv but don't think I could watch whole seasons worth. Always seems a bit samey.

Breaking bad - a friend rated that.

OP - about a phsychiatrist who as the series unfolds you learn has as many problems as his patients. Each episode is a session with each patient and there are usually 4 or so patients each series and you get to know them really well the more you watch. Utterly absorbing :)

The Good Wife is quite good
Spiral - fantastic, very dark
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (esp if you loved TWW - also Aaron Sorkin)
and House is definitely worth persevering with as the characters really develop over time, at least for the first 4 series or so
