Blimey they've just showed a poll that said 78% said they'd prefer to be at home. Am surprised at that?

Not really. Mumsnet is a bit of a bubble and most WAHMs on here seem to have a career but in society at large the vast majority of people have a job (which generally they hate but it pays the bills).

Crikey that is high. Is it an accurate poll (well, it is the Lorraine show).

Not sure how accurate?

I've always loved being a sahm but often got the 'aren't you bored' comments. I always say only boring people get bored. I found it quite rude when they say they want to use their brain cells so go out to work Grin
I've always kept my hand in doing hair (am stylist) and am starting to get back to it now. My dss are older though. I suppose I'm quite fortunate having a skill?

I just think people should make their own choices and not get so worked up on other peoples. I've never judged mothers who go out to work full time. What business is it of mine? So why do they judge me?

Anyway just was surprised by the poll.

Oh dear god, haven't they DONE this to death! It's such a false construct - most people do both surely over the course of the 20+ years that their children are living at home.

Have they asked dads whether they'd rather be working or staying at home do you think? Hmm

I think it was more when children are pre-school.

A lot of dads do stay at home nowadays especially with the lack of jobs. Sometimes their OH is the one going out to work. I know exdh would've loved being a sahd.

My point about dads was that I can pretty much guarantee if you asked any set of working people "would you rather work or spend more time at home with your family" (I bet they phrased it that simplistically) the majority would say that they'd prefer not to work.
