Ooooh I just said on the other thread we needed a spoilers thread - thanks Wintera for the linkage!

DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS - THE THREAD TITLE SAYS IT ALL!!

I cried my eyes out at this one, so incredibly sad. I didn't think they would portray the birth that way at all; so it was a bit of a shock. Also am I right in thinking that Carol got away? I'm a tad confused as she went through the door leaving T behind, but they found her scarf? Did it just fall off?

Also feeling very strange re: the guv'nor, why wouldn't he let Merrell go in search of Daryl? Do you think he's trying to keep men out, and women in?

MORE SPOILERS!

I sobbed during the birth, OMG! I've read the comics so I was expecting Lori to die at some point, but not like that. And poor Carl. Sad And Rick's reaction oh god, I was crying again, and Carl just standing there, not crying. I kept shouting at the telly, Blush "Lori can't die, who's going to feed the baby". I'm wondering if the baby will die in the next episode, because they've got no way of feeding it. (not sure if the sex is the same as the books). Did you see Hershel's little pony tail. Grin And the guy who opened the gate and let the walkers in, I thought he was bittern when Rick left him to die out in the open with the walkers? Confused

Agree with above poster assuming there is no formula in an abandoned zombie overrun maximum security prison how r they gonna feed that baby!!

I guess they off to Woodbury next week?

I am really really worried about that baby (can you tell I have an 11mo?). The trailer for ep 5 does show Daryl heading off in search of formula after Herschel points out that the baby needs food though. Hopefully he can pick up a few other items while he's out there (interestingly mental image of Daryl cross-bowing his way through a zombie-infested JoJo Maman Bebe in search of slings and grobags).

Did anyone else notice the heavily pregnant woman pointed out to Michonne & Andrea in Woodbury though? I'm wondering if the prospect of feeding the baby longterm could be what lures the Ricktatorship in there?

I was absolutely fine for ages, I wasn't overly worried about Lori... then Rick's reaction, my word, I was so close to crying but I was in a car with my dad and brother so didn't think I could.

Thank you for this thread!!!

God I hated her, but I bawled my eyes out! Was very impressed with a "realistic" birth for once, featuring the brilliant line "better get your pants off then" Grin and the fact that she didnt lie on her back to push but stood up.

I dont understand why, when it was known all along how real the risk of her dying was, why they havent thought about how they'd feed the baby if she did die. The birth wasnt a surprise, she knew she was pregnant, why have they not already been to get formula? It could take days to find any!! Same re nappies and clothes, though less urgent...

Also loved hershels ponytail Grin

Hated hated hated Lori, but the actress really turned it around this episode, brought a real lump to my throat. But it was Rick's reaction... ohh, when he looked at Carl and realised Carl had shot her, and then fell on the floor... I was in bits.

I haven't read the comics but I'd heard that it was pretty brutal with characters - and damn, the TV show is to! As long as they don't do anything with Darryl or get rid of the Governor too soon 'cos I fancy the pants off of him

OMG! What an episode! I can now forgive the dullfest that was much of season 2 as season 3 is more than making up for it.

Poor T-Dog. We finally get to see a little character development and bam! Walker food. At least he went out in a blaze of glory. Luckily, they have another bald black guy to take his place. I don't think for a minute that Carol is dead, I think the scarf is a red herring and a walker grabbed it off her as she escaped.

Not sure how I feel about Lori's death although that was some of the best acting we've seen from her to date. What tipped me over the edge was Maggie's reaction, especially when she saw Glenn and Rick, and then Rick's reaction Again, some cracking acting there. I wonder if Rick will be able to continue to lead the group knowing that his actions (in not killing the little prisoner dude when he had the chance) cost lives.

I was also wondering about how they're going to feed a baby. They've been on the road all winter and they knew there was a baby due...did no-one think to pick up some formula and nappies when they were raiding shops en route? You know, just in case?

Can't wait for next week now...what day is it shown in the US?

Harlett your response it exactly how I feel about it. I'm so glad I've finally good responses.

This season is way better in the 3 episodes so far than all of last season.

I did wonder why they hadn't picked baby formula and nappies up, not like she was pregnant for nine months Hmm lori's acting in her last few minutes was excellent for better than the whole last 3 series. I'm glad she is dead as she annoyed the hell out of me but it was very sad.

Has anybody figured out why they killed all the army men in last weeks episode?

My theory is that the soldiers would be too much of a risk to the Governor's finely engineered community - they wouldn't be prepared to toe his line and would be strong enough in numbers and skilled in combat to try to overthrow him and the other Woodbury militia.

I did think they would of been excellent help but never thought of it that way, suppose they would if been too much of a risk.

Very strange about all the heads in water, this looks like a very promising series :)

I missed an episode the week before last, so I'm a bit confused about who it is who got all the walkers into the prison - and why they would do it. Surely, they would just die too then? Confused

I also found Lori's character very irritating, but was impressed with her final scene and the realism of the birth. I was terrified she was going to give birth to a zombie baby and so relieved when it seemed normal. Cried loads during her speech to her DS. It was heartbreaking. And the bloody door didn't shut properly, so I was constantly worried that the walkers were going to get in!

I agree that Lori would surely have thought about nappies and considered that she might not survive the birth and the baby might need formula, especially as she had needed a Caesarean before. Maybe you don't have time to plan this stuff during a zombie apocalypse though... Even if they do get hold of formula and bottles, will they be able to sterilise the bottles and boil the water safely? Do they even have running water in the prison?

I thought the Governor killed the soldiers because he didn't want extra mouths to feed or any threat to his power. He only wanted weapons. I think he wants the women to service the men and have babies. Am not sure why he won't let Merrell look for his brother though. Maybe he just doesn't want Merrell bringing more men back to the town?

Actually, so much happened in that episode that I think I'm going to have to watch it again. I did hide behind my cardi for the scarier bits, so might have missed some crucial scenes Blush.

My theory on why the govenor shot the army men is because he doesn't want the people in Woodbury to know that the army stronghold was defeated by walkers. If his people find out that they are not as safe as he has led them to believe then maybe they will start questioning his authority/looking to leave. So, he had to shoot the soldiers rather than have them reveal that there is still a risk of Woodbury failing.
Loved episode 4, Rick's reaction was heart wrenching, great acting finally.

superoz · 08/11/2012 12:57

It's been 2 days since I saw episode 4 and I'm still reeling - I wasn't expecting Lori to die. There was some brilliant acting in this episode - and poor T-Dog; Carol is still alive.
I didn't understand why Maggie didn't want to shoot Lori in the head after she died and just let her own son do it. Wasn't Lori telling her she had to do it during the birth?
I reckon the Army was taken out because they posed a threat to The Governor's power over Woodbury; he is the sole leader and did not want to bring people in who may want to take away some of his control. He probably also didn't want anyone to find his collection of heads in water tanks which would make him look like a psychopath. Which he most likely is.
I think that the women are being acquired for sex and baby breeding. Michonne (or the Mean Lady as we call her in our household) has already worked out what's going on, Andrea is just stupid and gone back to being really irritating again.

Report
NellyBluth · 08/11/2012 13:08

I thought Carl insisted that he would do it, because Lori was his mum?

I'm sure the Governor only wants men he can boss around in his town, military men would just be too much of a threat to his power. Andrea is stupid, but then I'd be just as stupid if David Morrissey was making eyes at me (yes, I really will bring up how much I fancy him every time I write something)

Anyone remember the flashbacks in series 2 which showed the military bombing Atlanta though? Also I think there was a scene in series 1 where Shane was trying to get Rick out of hospital in the early days of the ZA and soldiers were shooting civilians. While the Governor is obviously pyscho, its possible that he and his crew know the military aren't exactly trustworthy post-ZA.

They have been practising performing c sections in the last few weeks. They knew it was very likely that she would have to have another section. They must have known it was also very likely that she would die in such a situation. Even if they could be sterile (unlikely) and have the right tools (unlikely), it's still probably going to happen.

Why did they not find some formula and nappies, or material to make nappies, over the last 8 months that they have been travelling? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Nelly - Lori was telling Maggie that she didn't want Rick having to shoot her once she was dead. But Karl insisted that he should be the one to do it.

I think that they have missed a trick with The Governer. It's a shame that they made it so obvious that he was evil from the start - they could have had some fum with it, because now it's just dull to watch. Waiting for everyone else to find out what we know.

Toffee I love how your concerned about sterlising the bottles. Haha this would never of crossed my mind. I just thought about formula.

Do you think is there any way for the baby to be healthy? As everyone has the disease you'd assume they would too? God love anyone having a shot or knife a baby zombie

I would imagine that this means that they will be linking up with The Governer relatively soon - someone mentioned there that they have a woman about to give birth.

My theory is, carl closed his eyes when he shot Lori and missed, she is still alive only just though. Hershel manages to stitch her up and they hit the road to find a hospital to look for blood/supplies and come across the Guv'ner where Rick and the gang stay until they get suspicious of him.

I did notice at the end when they show the next episode that the scientist from woodbury gets bit so i gather they leave woodbury and maybe meet rick and co?

I agree Carole is still alive and as much as Lori annoyed me I felt it wasn't the right time for her to go.
