"Sometimes," says Michael's psychiatrist, "the things we hold on to aren't the best things for us." Michael's psychiatrist has a point. For the curious, troubled Michael (Richard Coyle), who suffers mysterious flashbacks to an unspecified childhood trauma, has a rather unhealthy attachment to his friend, the even more troubled Peter (Toby Stephens). Michael's refusal to abandon the friendship - and the long-buried secret that it appears to conceal - is the basis of this brooding, two-part psychological thriller. Michael's strange flashbacks are ominously effective, while the ever-watchable Keeley Hawes delivers another subtle, convincing turn as his beleaguered new wife, Kate. The concluding part - in which George Irving as the sinister Miller comes into his own - is tomorrow at 9:00pm.
