This new drama series from the people who gave the world Footballers' Wives and Bad Girls is set in the eponymous run-down northern comprehensive school whose pupils leave not with GCSEs, but "an Asbo or a bun in the oven". And those are the headmaster's words. It's a hopelessly chaotic place, filled with surly pupils and staff who struggle to impose even minimal order. Considering its lurid stablemates, you'd be forgiven for expecting Waterloo Road to inhabit similar territory. In fact, it's peopled by comfortable stereotypes, drawn in broad brush strokes - middle-class characters are snooty and insensitive, working-class ones are either thugs or the salt of the earth. It's packed with familiar faces, mainly soap renegades including Jill Halfpenny (ex-EastEnders and Coronation Street) and Angela Griffin (ex-Corrie and Holby City).

i think the first series of "teachers" was better. but then turned into a pile of old plop after

fisil - pretty sure in the first scenes the headteacher said "you'll have no problem starting in a month" and the deputy said "no" so I think there was a time delay.

DH woke our 5 month old DD up when he gasped at one of the final scenes!!

he started in a month - my immediate comment to dh was haha that is unrealistic as he would have to give half a term's notice

I liked it, it was actually really good. Though it did make me comment that when DD goes to comp school they'll be in cages

I thought it looked promising. Will watch next one and then decide. Spent most of the programme trying to work out which programmes all the actors had been in. Was Tom Clarkson(Jason Done) the original Steven in Where the Heart is ?

threelittlebabies, you've made me google ! He was definitely in Where the Heart Is. Think he was the first or second Stephen then as there has definitely been more than one.

Don't think there were more than 2. Didn't watch last series - was starting to find it a bit boring. Liked it better when the original Snow family were all in it !
