There is a building from Sheffield on it too I think. Some really vile, horrid 1960s flats which are bizarrely "listed". Think almost everyone in Sheffield is desperate for them to come down as they as a real eyesore and so not what Sheffield is about now - in recent years it has gone from strength to strength and is really modern and a great city. These are horrid and need to go!!!

at least you have a town centre with shops. apart from pound shops and card shops the shops we have are new look, argos, adams, and peacocks for a large population

Mumofelise, I used to live nearby, Cumbernauld used to be the place everyone wanted to move to! What did they do with the big clock that was near the part they knocked down ages ago? You are right about the people who live there, they don't deserve that place. Pity the council are too heads-up-own-arses to care. Did you know that the Carlyle Group own that part the new centre is going to be built on? That means profit first, what the people want last.

At least there is Palacerigg!

That town centre building in Cumbernauld is just completely bonkers.

If you saw the prog the night before, I used to live very near those hideous flats on the Rowner Estate - my mates and I used to play round there because we thought it was so exotic!

Back then it was quite decent though, before the Navy moved out. It's a bloody disgrace now.

twoifbysanta, palacerigg now consists of an owl, ducks, couple of pigs and a donkey, another council owned disaster

Cumbernauld town centre is dire. I thought the planners had some great ideas (was in Birmingham a few weeks back and the Bullring is fantastic, would deffinately trust the guy that planned that) and can't believe the Council isn't willing to take up their suggestions and just wants to put another big shopping centre up. It's awful that there is no 'High Street'.

They used to have a large enclosure with wolves in it at Palacerigg. What a shame the council have cocked that up too?

I suppose that is what happens with a council that never changes leading party though, same happens in Glasgow. Stagnant, I think would be a good term, like their thinking and their lack of ambition in planning anything!

I used to live in cumbersneckie but moved about 5 years ago, I'm trying to move back for convenience child-care nursery etc & the house prices are ridiculous. When we left the same Persimmon home was bout £900 dearer in Cumbernauld than where I am now but now a similar house in Carrickstone/Craigmarloch area where I'd like is about £35K dearer than what I can expect for mine in a similar development with better transport links & local shops than Cumbernauld. It's a bloody disgrace when you consider the local ameneties even discounting the town centre. I must just make one observation though, they dropped Janet SP off in the middle of a delivery loading bay as if that's where the entrances are & all the locals know it's not. They never showed any of the newer part which is still pants but looks not bad it's just the awful shops that are in it!
God I'm nearly talking myself out of moving back.
