basically it's about the long term affects that junk food/no excercise combinations have on our childs health in the future.
The programme last night had a family consisting of mum, dad, son (not sure of age, around 11-12 ish) & daughter (maybe 9ish)
The dad had a job filling vending machine with sweets & although I missed the first 15mins, I gather he was bringing home sweets/crisps for the kids.
The son was eating an average of 69 tsps of sugar a day & the daughter around 40-50.
The parents were shown a preview of how, if they continued to eat like this, they would look at age 40.
The experiement was to cut down radically on their sugar & junk intakes & increase excercise over a period of 4 weeks. They were also tasked with doing family activities to stop the constant TV watching. BTW they had 7 tv's in the house.
The effect of the junk food/no excercise was amazing & the mother cried at what she was allowing to happen to her children. Equally interesting was the positive impact eating better etc had. The children could extend their lives by an average of 15 years this way.
