Why didn't she get arrested after she blew up the judge? There were hundreds of witnesses!

Because the general public blank out what their brains can't comprehend. A teeny woman with a rocket launcher was too bizarre so they blanked it out.

I'm awful. I love Buffy but I can't help but pick the flaws!

Like why on earth did the police try to arrest her for kendras murder (even though it was blatantly obvious it wasn't her) but then totally let her off for teds???

I dunno

I never quite got it with Ted - she karate chopped the guy down the stairs!!!

They quite often mentioned the high mortality rate in sunnydale, but no-one ever bothered to move away until the mean priest turned up!

I love the preacher - seen him in a few things, and not not liked him in anything (iykwim).

I think the other thing we need to keep in mind is... Its fiction - hence the lack of arrests etc

I miss it too... I still wish it had finished back in the mental hospital though, and us find out that it had all been in her imagination after all....

Dh and I have been watching Firefly, by same guy who wrote Buffy (it's too late to remember his name). We're quite enjoying it, and there's a film out soon as well (called Serenity). There's an actress in it who is the image of Sarah Michelle Geller, except she is dark instead of blond.

Firefly was great (bitter it got cancelled).

And you get the preacher guy in that too

Have you seen the trailer for Serenity? It looks great!

how very dare you

Buffy has no flaws

Buffy's flaws are part of what makes up the essential buffiness... if it was smooth and perfect then it would be dull.

Serenity is out in October, and the name you are looking for is (the divine) Joss Whedon.

Report
bran · 03/09/2005 15:12

Yes, of course it's Joss Whedon. I woke up in the early hours this morning and remembered his name. I know that my Mumsnet habit is under control because I felt only a very small desire to get out of bed and post his name here.

I bought the Firefly series because I though dh would like it, when it arrived I showed it to him and told him it was by the Buffy creator and that was a film of the series coming out soon. The next day the Culture section of the Sunday Times had an article about Serenity and Firefly, and sure enough that afternoon dh said "did you know that dvd you bought is by the Buffy guy, and there's a film of it coming out soon". [sigh]

There is a comic/graphic novel (whatever the techinical term is) to link up Firefly and Serenity too

Report
motherinferior · 04/09/2005 13:32

It's fabulous, Firefly. How dare Fox cut it mid-series????

Report
flamesparrow · 04/09/2005 13:33

I'm still holding out half a hope that the film'll make them realise that it had fans, and start making it again.

Report
motherinferior · 04/09/2005 13:39

It's planned as a franchise, so at least we should have more films in the pipeline.

Is Firefly on tv here?

Report
serenity · 06/09/2005 16:29

I don't think it has been, unless it was on something like FX. Maybe C4 or 5 might pick it up if the film does OK? The DVDs aren't too badly priced, I think it was £29.99. I've started to rewatch it, but if you want to borrow it and don't mind waiting a couple of weeks I'll be happy to send it to you.

Firefly was on Sky One - it was brilliant, Willow, and well worth buying the box set (we got ours £29.99 from Amazon). Really looking forward to seeing the film.

Buffy was flawless until the end when it fizzled out like a damp squib. Mainly because SMG refused to come back for the finale and thus we were denied the ending we deserved. I'm sorry, but some blonde stand-in tossing her hair in the background was an insult. Angel and Buffy were meant to be together - like Romeo and Juliet (OK, they didn't work out either but ykwim).

Also thought the ending to Angel was a cop-out - such a shame.

Report
flamesparrow · 06/09/2005 16:50

Buffy had run its course and needed to end...

Angel however they only cancelled suddenly, and the ending was like that because they were still campaigning to get it taken up again - so it was left unresolved for us to finish ourselves, or for him to do if given the chance.

Blonde tossing hair... are we talking that odd Angel episode chasing the blonde bird round Paris or Rome or wherever?

As much as I hate to say it - I love the show Buffy with a passion, but can't stand SMG - I always feel like a traitor when I admit that!

MM - just watched the last couple of episodes of Buffy last night, and SMG was quite noticeably there all the way through......!? I agree with FS, are you sure you aren't thinking of the Angel episode set in Italy (which was an annoying cop out for her)

I'm a bigger Willow fan than Buffy fan, especially during S7 when she was particulary mopey and slappable
