Male role models in literature for DS, 15?

DS can occasionally be persuaded to stop slaughtering all comers on the PSP and read a book. So far I have given him the thrillers I enjoyed uncritically myself at that age - James Bond, Dick Francis, Sherlock Holmes, etc. But I am beginning to realize what appalling men these heroes are - violent, disrespectful of women and emotionally constipated. Are there any exciting books with a hero you might actually want your daughter to marry? Many thanks in advance!

What about "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy? Its a fabulous book - DS's English teacher recommended he read it but the last person who borrowed our copy hasn't returned it

DS is 15, ps3 addicted as well & currently reading Barack Obama's biography Dreams of my Father. Seems to be enjoying it.

Autobiographies would be a lot more credible & inspiring to a 15yr old. Easy to search for/filter!
