This week I ordered a Graze Fruit box to be delivered to DD. She phoned today sooo thrilled with it. A mix of getting something unexpected (post-box envy goes on), & getting something different.

As it was

I sent one of my ex-pupils a little notebook and Emma Bridgewater pen when she started uni - less than a tenner for both but went down well.

Pretty post-it notes?

Nice highlighters?

Cute knickers, Accessorize have nice ones as do topshop
A thermal vest from MandS
A bag of cola bottles
Home made fudge

Ooh - coloured staples!

She has highlighters & post-its from Christmas Stocking, but they are all good ideas, Thanks.

Marmite! I love it but she hates it. She doesn't drink Tea (or coffee) - but Hot Choc sachets may be an idea?

Bookmarks also good fun (I did buy a funny card that made me laugh this week as it reminded me of her, so that will go soon). Things that won't cost too much to post are the best

Thanks for the ideas - I need to expand my thinking boxes..

Packet of minstrels (nice and sturdy!)

A block of parmesan, if she's not in catered halls

sachets of hot choc

go and collect loads of freebies from the makeup counters

Thatsnotmymonkey: Wow, lots there!

Er, no - I don't knit

Photos are good - she has decorated her Uni room with loads she ordered before she went.

Primark jewellery is a great idea and Knickers - genius (She loves La Senza but mainly buys Primark).

They are great ideas - Thanks.

Freebies - you are on my wavelength there!

Magazines, she would really like French or German ones! (Fun AND useful for course)

Socks good - but she got loads at Christmas, so later in year.

Keep them coming!

Scratchcard would be good for my Nephew, but DD doesn't do the lottery (probably wouldn't complain if she won though )

When my brother was studying abroad, mum used to put together packets of things like underwear wrapped around English goodies, eg bars of Cadbury or Galaxy, flapjacks, teabags, etc.

My mum sent me one of my favourite yoghurts that I couldn't get in my local supermarket when I was a student, all packed in polystyrene - I was so touched. So any fave food that she either can't get or can't afford.

OK my DD posted that last post...

I'll have to find a good fruit and veg box company to send food parcels when DD goes off to uni or she will be having pot noodles morning, noon and night.

A friend's parents sent her a new pair of knickers every day during finals as she had "too much to be thinking of to do laundry".
Made the rest of us giggle, but also slightly jealous of the thought and effort. Will try to remember to do it myself (in 20 years time...)

  • I won't tell her that or she'll expect it. Lovely idea though.
