Braces - sooooooo painful

I had train tack braces as a teen and DD has just had them put on. Is there anything that helps ease the pain ( obviously other than paracetamol ) She won't eat anything either

I'm sure it will settle down and then she'll have them tightened again. I'm sure it is par for the course, and it will be worth it.

Any advice?

I don't have a lot of experience, but DS did get a brace at age 8yo...
My guess is that it shouldn't be awful pain. I would ring orthodontist to ask if it they can be eased off (untightened a little) while she is still getting used to them.

My ds had braces put on a few months ago and was in quite a lot of discomfort for probably the first week, after which it all settled down. I think there is always some pain for the first few days { I remember it being quite painful when I had them } but if it is bad or persistent then I would definitely contact her orthodontist.

My ds had no problems really after the first tightening, though, so hopefully it will be the same for your ddafter the initial settling in period.

I remember my braces! For a few days after each tightening appointment even the pressure of my lips against my teeth was painful! Agree with Winetime though, after the first session the others were never as bad.

It was dreadful and other than paracetamol and lots of nice soups nothing can really help.

Also, not sure if it's still a problem these days but when I had them the bits where the wires are attached used to cut the insides of my cheeks. The orthodontist used to give me some red waxy stuff to squish between my fingers and then squash onto the sides of the braces to cover any sharp bits.
Worth bearing in mind!

To this day I am VERY VERY grateful to my mum for making me persevere though!!

Thank you everyone - she says they are much better today, and I expect that will be the pattern of it - tightening the brace then they will be sore for a couple of days.

Soup and nurofen it is then!
