compared to the size of a fly?

It would depend on the plane but DH says 1000 X.

WobblyPig · 13/11/2008 21:21

Which aeroplane and which fly? In short, No but probably could find out. Are we talking about length? A house fly could be about 1cm so anyone know how long a plane could be?
bit of weird question as homework.

WobblyPig · 13/11/2008 21:22

If 1000x that would make the plane 10m wouldn't it?

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 21:25

i think it is to see who is fastest, seems like a fly is, comparitively

Length?
Weight?
Wingspan?

RustyBear · 13/11/2008 21:28

A 747-400 has a wingspan of around 65m - a fly probably about 1cm (I haven't measured any flies lately...) - that's 6,500x bigger

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 21:31

thanks rusty and everyone

When my DB1 worked for British Aerospace he had a friend who worked out the wingspan of a Harrier jump jet in light femto-fortnights (the distance that light travels in a quadrillionth (10 to the -15) of a fortnight - it's about 36 cm) Apparently, he put it in an official report & nobody noticed...

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 21:42

oooookayyy
will bear that one in mind

DH just wandered past, (mis)read my last but one post and said 'I'm relieved to know you haven't measured anyone's flies lately....'

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 22:24

lolol

we worked out that since the fly was roughly 7000 bigger but flew at 3 mph, therefore if as big as a plane would fly at 21,000!

on my head be it if its wrong

OP posts:
SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 22:24

oops, obviously smaller.

OP posts:
squeakypop · 13/11/2008 22:26

What topic was this problem on?

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 22:28

maths

OP posts:
squeakypop · 13/11/2008 22:29

Trying to get my head around how the fly would go faster if it were bigger.

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 22:31

supposedly it goes 3 mph!
very strange - just how did someone measure or rather did someone measure that?

OP posts:
RustyBear · 13/11/2008 22:31

Slarty's fly...

SlartyBartFast · 13/11/2008 22:38

ds appreciated that
