would you make your dc go to something they REALLY don't want to go to?

ds's school have a trip. it is local and to see/meet/hear poets. there will also be other stuff going on. all of this is to help with their english gcse(and yes he needs help) but he HATES poetry(i understand as i do) and it is on a day when he has another gcse lesson wher he is working as part of a team. he reckons he HAS to be at school.
what would you do?
(chances are if i send him he will zone out as only a 16yr old can and I will waste the £11 it costs)

If I were a 16 yr old boy disinterested in poetry it would have to be someone PRETTY BLOODY SPECIAL to turn me onto it!

Do you know which poets will be there?

Agree it sounds like it will be a waste of money if he's just not interested.

I would make my dd go (but then I am mean!)
Will have to do poetry in gcse, so anything that helps!

I am sure dd's bf in yr 11 went on an english trip like this a couple of weeks ago. My thinking is that the school must think it will be helpful for the exam.

Just read the latest school newsletter. Yes there was an English trip to hear talks by a number of poets whose poems yr 11 are studying for GCSE.

The trip could be useful.

If you know when and where it is, it is possible to find out which poets will be there. We've organised this trip too and Carol Ann Duffy is going to be there and I am cross because I have a meeting and can't go!

I think it will be really crowded with kids from loads of other schools but I also think it should be useful as it's specifically targetted to the AQA exam syllabus (if it's the same one anyway).
