DS16 has just done his own packing for a week by the sea!

Off to stay with the I laws tomorrow for a week. They live right on the beach and the forecast is sunny, mid 20s all week.
He has just given me his clothes for the week.
3 long sleeved shirts
1 polo shirt.
When I asked if that's it he did point out he'd also have the clothes he's travelling in (polo shirt, skinny jeans and DMs and I'm assuming underwear)
My suggestion of taking a pair of swimming shorts was met with a glare.
I don't think his current mod look has a beachwear section.
I think it's going to be a long week!

When DS was 12 he went on a school activity week thingie. When he got back everything in his bag was damp except his washbag!

Gotta love 'em.

Seriously though, perhaps you could secretly pack some shorts for him anyway, just in case.

Good luck to him. It might work brilliantly or it might work like my DS who, upon being questioned on whether he'd packed enough for a weekend away and revealing that he hadn't, instead chose to dump the entire contents of his chest of drawers (contents: eleventy billion socks, numerous pants some of which even fit him, and more t-shirts than H&M) into his bag and call it done. And then when he returned dump the mostly still clean socks etc into the washing basket. Happy joy

I asked him if he's packing his other bits in his own bag, to which he replied what else do I need. I pointed out he might want underwear, t-shirts and he told me of course he'd packed those in his bag. He's just asked me if I've got room for his laptop and books as his backpack is full, so at least it sounds like there will be clean underwear.
He really doesn't want to go, apparently all his friends parents let them stay at home for a week. The one thing I'm determined is not to argue with him. I am going to pack a pair of shorts and canvas shoes so at least he's got the option when we're there.

Warn him that if he doesn't pack enough of the right items for the beach, his granny will probably go off and buy him what she imagines is suitable clothing and a pair of Speedos

Also warn him that it's not on to inflict the smell of clothes worn too often on others staying in possibly close quarters in a holiday home, and that it's also not fair for him to expect anyone to spend their holiday doing laundry for him because he didn't bring enough changes to stay un-whiffy.

ds (8) has also packed, for our 2 week holiday to Cornwall next week:

6 pairs of swimming trunks
4 pairs of goggles
torch
2 DS's
14 teddy bears
6 hardback books (which he will not read)
a packet of haribo
a million Pokémon cards

er - how did he manage last year, and the year before, and the year before, etc. ?

It's never been a problem before. It's more to do with him having a 'look' at the moment which is quite smart. He likes his mod shirts, skinny jeans and DMs, he irons his own shirts and polishes his DMs almost daily. I should be grateful he has at least left his parka at home! He has arrived with quite a few t-shirts as well, so hopefully he will wear them during the day.
