DS did, they he stopped 2 weeks before the interview.
He's really happy working there.

I don't think it's bizarre. Unusual maybe. It can be a hygiene and appearance issue.
There are many jobs where I think a question like that in the application process WOULD be bizarre, but not in a potential food handling, customer service job.
Not sure of the legalities of discriminating against someone on this basis, however. Would be interested to know more about that.

To be honest, they should also ask "Do you pick your nose / wipe your nose on the back of your hand / cough without covering your mouth" Grin
(joking)

It's to do with hygiene - means they know in advance if you can work on any of the fresh food counters such as fish, butchers, bakers etc.

If they do have to put you on one of these, you have to wear gloves.

Pretty sensible question - DS didn't get as far as the interview though, and it wasn't on his application form.

Still bites his nails though!!!!

I went to Waitrose recently and the poor girl on the checkout was really stressed because she's forgotten to take off her nail polish. I felt really sorry for her.

My nephew did actually say yes at his interview as he didn't want to lie! He was just told he needed to stop and that they would check when he started work. Reckon they must have been impressed by his honesty - now has a great student job!
