Any ideas what special keepsake present I can get for soon to be 18yr old DS? Looking for different ideas, rather than things such as tankards and watches.
Thanks

It depends what he's into (obvs!) and how much you want to spend but I'd go down the vintage/collectable route. Something that'll look cool for years to come when he has a flat or house of his own, and hopefully gain value. (An original anglepoise lamp or a piece of great furniture or a huge genuine vintage flag to go on the wall - Union Jack or whatever would mean most to him? If he's into music, a retro record player and some vinyl. eBay is a great resource!!)

How much to do want to spend? You can buy a share in a company like Facebook or Apple for under 100. It should increase in value of time.

It's hard as it depends what he likes.
My son is into collecting vinyl so I would get him a record that was a hit when he was born (search eBay etc) and a vinyl that's his music taste that's a hit now. There are specialist vinyl online stores.
Or a bottle of whiskey you can rest to be opened on his 30th or sold. You can do the same with single kinter port. The tradition is you turn it on his birthday until you open it or sell it on his 30th.
We made a memory book for my daughter - took days and days. Down loaded the software and put had it printed. The scanning of photos, trawling through our digital photos and her and her friends Facebook pics to get a good selection drove us potty. But the result was amazing. We had pages in themes. Like Halloween they went from making pumpkin lanterns and fun games and cute costumes to drunk partying with friends. Driving pic of her in her push along car to driving her car now. She absolutely loved how we had put then and now. We even had a double page to bad silly face pulling photos of everyone she knows.
If you do this be prepared to go a little mad for a week or so.

Mine wanted a watch and we also got him the lego back to the future delorean. Not trendy but he was thrilled with it.

Am watching with interest as DS2 is 18 in September. Like Heyho, we got a photo book made up for DS1's 18th and he was really pleased with it.

Great thread, waiting for interesting ideas. Its my younger brothers 18th soon and I don't have a clue! Doesn't help that he's slightly SN so isn't completely 18 mentally iyswim? He probably wouldn't appreciate a photo book or similar.... Struggling!!
