Twin block functional brace rubbing mouth

My daughter had a twin block functional brace fitted on Monday. She's been in pain and her jaw felt uncomfortable where it's being pushed forward, but that's easing and I think she's coped quite well as I wouldn't want it myself.

However, the wire on the bottom brace are rubbing against the inside skin under her lips in two places. She's hopeful her skin will toughten up, but is there anything you can buy to cover these parts or anything we can do to help her?

My DD had the same problem; ask your Orthodontist for some wax (little sticks that you can break pieces off and form a small ball to stick where it's rubbing). Should only need it for first few weeks.

The best tip I was given and it works.
Get wax from your orthodontist or dentist to put on the parts that rub.
If you run out buy baby bell and use the wax that's around the cheese.

My daughter has been through the twin-block brace thing. The first two weeks were really hard but she got used to it then. She's glad she did it now. It is hard but it does seem to work quite quickly. Good luck with it and stay strong!

My daughter has had her twin block brace about 10 days now. She's had rubbing in her mouth. I bought her some orthodontic wax from Boots - it's quite hard and felt uncomfortable against her sore mouth but it has helped. She also has a sore under her tongue where it's getting a little stretched. I bought her some orthodontic toothpaste (again from Boots)at the weekend and she thinks the sores actually feel a little better - not sure whether that's because her mouth is getting used to the braces or whether the toothpaste helps (it does say it relieves irritation).

She says her teeth are feeling really dirty. She's cleaning them 3x a day and I've got her some sugar free gum to have after lunch at school - not sure if this will help.

Obviously she needs to wear it a lot longer, but I can already see her two front teeth have changed position slightly.

As all above - orthodontic wax.

Hi - hope she is settling into them - mine had a horrible week but is now fine with them. She's had the wire rubbing problem too and said biting in a carrot helped to ease the pain. Not sure about the logic! It really does get better once you get through these first few days. Wax helped too but she only needed that for a week. Good luck
