Have 13 yr old son who is turning my hair grey. He is lazy, never does as he's told without hours of negotiation and time wasting and even then the crappiest standard will do. He does well at school in subjects he likes and totally rubbish at everything else. He always finds the worst mates who he does and says stupid inappropriate things to impress. Never can he come in when he says he will so he is grounded at least half his life.
I find that I can't like him at the moment and this makes me feel really bad. I think he knows this and it must make him worse.
Is he normal? Am I normal? Will he make it to 14 alive do you think?

i have a 13yr old brother and he souds very much like your son...he's a pain in the arse and is completely rude...i've stopped staying over at mums house because of his attitude....he doesnt do anything around the house, gets aggressive when asked to do simple things.....to be honest i think its just the 'teen' thing..
all you can do is stick to what you say, dont give in if you say a certain punishment then stick to it...hit him where it hurts....i.e: the computer / bike / playstation...

Think drink is a good plan. He sounds normal to me but I don't know yet from experience. I always performed v mediocrely at subjects i didn't like, I have to say. Why don't you and him go out for lunch tomorrow? Maybe you need some parlay time where you don't mention the irritating stuff and accentuate the positive to start liking him again?

Can't do individual time with him this weekend cos he is at his father's, which is a whole other bucket load of worms. Glad he sounds normal, can't help worrying cos his older sister wasn't ever like this. Have nightmares that he will stay like this, never leave home except to do time and it will all be my fault.

On 2nd beer now so feeling less stressed
