Is this a private school?

If they're in year 11, yes. It's not really to do with age.

We had a girl in Yr 12 this year who was following the Yr 11 curriculum as she had left her previous school before sitting GCSEs to have a baby. She didn't wear uniform, and was treated like a 6th form student.

It depends ....
(you are starting a lot of posts, is there a particular reason?)

Are you the 17 year old in question? If so, yes you should accept that sometimes adults also have to wear uniforms to participate in activities. In this case the activity is attending school, and yes uniform is required.

Yes if they're in year 11 classes. In some schools 6th formers still have to wear uniform anyway.

leah maybe you need to discuss these things with your parents/ school rather than mumsnet.

the teenage board is mostly about teens not teens posting

If they are in classes where everyone is wearing uniform, they should also wear uniform.

If you are not wearing uniform and everyone else in your class is, then the whole school will know that you have been put back a couple of years and they will all laugh at you.

leah, you are starting the wrong kind of post

you keep asking again and again: why are not the adults treating me with the respect due to my age?

what you should be asking is: how can I prove to the adults around me that I am mature enough to be treated as one of them?

and perhaps also: what do I stand to lose by insisting on being treated like an adult?

the truth is that when they see you as a child, people protect you, they cut you some slack, they make allowances

as an adult, they interfere less but they expect more

if you want to have that, you have to show that you can deliver more: more hard work (this being what adults do), more mature behaviour, more responsibility taken for your own situation, less blaming of others

there are many teens who are much happier being treated as adults and who do actually manage to achieve that

they are the ones who don't blame others when things go wrong, who seek solutions to their own problems, who have a plan for what they want out of life
