He used to read a lot before he got a computer in his room. The computer is great and he does amazing stuff on it but I'm now stopping screen activity for both my teens at 9pm in the hope they'll read before bed again.

Ds is 13 and the last books I remember him reading were the Percy Jackson series then the Cherub books. So what's next do you reckon?

The Chris Ryan books are going down well with my ds, although he is just 12 so maybe a bit too young for your ds??

I loved Stephen king at that age but not sure it's the sort of rthing you want him reading! James Herbert is s but less crude but equally gruesome from what I can remember.

I do think though that kids should read anything and everything, even the less than literary stuff!

Terry pratchett maybe?

Dr who books if he likes the tv show, ditto Star Wars (or maybe Star Trek? I definitely seen one of them in my library!)

I recently read A trilogy by Patrick Ness that he might like, the main character is his age but its not at all babyish. The first book is The Knife of Never Letting Go

My DS2 is also 13 and enjoying the dark humour and word-play in the Series of Unfortunate Events books by Lemony Snicket. :)

Tho' to be honest, I think he generally prefers non-fiction... Giving him free rein in the charity shops turns up some interesting stuff, e.g.:
The Book of the Universe
Northern Lights
Inventions that Changed the World
Freud for Beginners (tho' he didn't get very far with that one!)
:)

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Sacrifice series by Charlie Higson
Bodyguard: Hostage by Chris Bradford
Gone by Michael Grant

Here are two book lists I've drawn up that cover his age group - they're on my book review website (there's no cost involved, I set the website up because encouraging teens to read is a passion):

Definitely the Michael Grant series: Gone, Lost etc. Although they do sound horrendous when ds1 tells me about them.
