books for 14 year olds

Hi all, can anyone recommend some good books for 14 year olds. Preferably with female protagonists although this is not essential.

It's for girls who have not read massively widely and are not hugely fast readers. Books they have read and enjoyed recently are:

Hunger games trilogy
harry potter books
twilight books

I struggle to find male protagonists sometimes for DS!
How about The Secret Apocalypse by James Harden? This was a free kindle book and would appeal to anyone who liked the Hunger Games. Quite an easy read. 16 year old girl is sole survivor of a plague that wipes out the population of Australia but nowhere else. Not much violence and no sex.

They are my twin SDDs, and are very mature in a lot of ways, but with not much life experience, if that makes sense.

Try these - they tend to be series so if they like the first one you can pretty much guarantee that's another two or three they'll read!

Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy. Dark and funny,and they get darker as the series progresses. DD and I love them!

Hi fudgeling, my teen DD and I both absolutely loved "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. Honestly, I can't recommend it highly enough, a perfect read for young teens of both sexes. My DD found it inspiring and felt a real affinity with the lead female character.

It might also be worth asking your DD's school for a recommended reading list. Our school puts them up on its website, one for each year.

Girl Missing - a straightforward read. A girl tries to find her real parents, is an adventure story and a minor romance on the side. The girl is pretty much anti-parent but in the end this comes good. Part of a series. Whats up jody barton is really good but it does have a plot twist which knocks you for six. If I say what it is then it spoils the book but I can say that if you are looking for a strong female protagonist this is not the book to choose.

well - the teenagers in the book are twins - very different twins in terms of character - but the plot twist is not about them being twins (although it does cause problems between them but these are resolved) - but about Jody's sexual leanings and finding peace with that. Sorry a bit cryptic but don't want to spoil things...

It'll give the plot away. Its a great book with a twist - it challenges preconceptions and it doesn't end up being the book you think you started out reading.
