Help! How do I persuade my 11 year old son to wear his removable teeth braces!! I have tried everything, scare tatics, bribery, softly softly approach and I am now on the verge of giving up. Perhaps its time for him to make his own choices.....??

It's fashionable to have braces nowadays, so teasing shouldn't be a problem, but then I wasn't teased 30 years ago either.
Can't you get the dentist to give him a talking to.

DD will probably have a brace very soon (am waiting for appointment to come through) and I have my old impressions to show her the difference.

Is it necessary that he wears a removable brace?

Dd2 was told it would be a good idea for her to wear a removable one to try to widen her palate but if she wouldn't, then we'd just wait and see if/when she needed the traintracks.

I was lucky. dd2 didn't want one at first, we left it and then she changed her mind, partly because quite a few of her friends had braces.

I did tell her that if traintracks were recommended then she wouldn't have a choice Wink

Thanks, I think I will take him back to dentist for another chat. We have been back once and he told dentist he would wear them then took them out as soon as we left!!

DD has many friends who wished they had worn their retainers as after all the train tracks etc their teeth have moved!

Are these a pre-cursor to fixed braces? Maybe doing some work now with removeable ones will shorten the time needed in tracks?

DS is lucky, and has been fitted with 2 permanent retainers but they are behind his teeth so totally invisible - but he has to wear them until he stops growing.
