Who in the 'at risk' group is still waiting to hear from their GP about the vaccine?

(66 Posts)
Just curious really. dd and dh belong to different gp surgeries and neither of them have had a letter from the gp yet about the vaccine. We've been told they will get one due to their asthma. I know that it was supposed to take up to around 3 or 4 weeks for all gp practices to get the vaccine for their vulnerable patients, 3-4 weeks if starting to feel like a long time now that we have flu in our school.

Who else is still waiting?
MG - hope your ds is feeling better now.

Srogger thats really rubbish.
They phoned me saturday.I am having 2 shots 3 weeks apart First one wednesday on my bloody birthday!I am in the south east

Still nothing here in SE London. Found out this morning my childcarer has swine flu, which means my young children have been exposed and I am 21 weeks pregnant. I rang my GP this morning to be told there are no clinics yet. That's it - "no clinics yet."

She couldn't even tell me what our surgery's policy is for pregnant women who are in close contact with someone who has swine flu. I had to look up the NHS Direct website to find out that SOME GPs will give anti virals to someone in my position, but I don't know if mine will or not. Oh well, have booked appointment and will prepare to be patronised within an inch of my life.

Meanwhile, my family back home in North America have been vaccinated in the past three weeks and they keep ringing to find out if I've had mine yet. It's annoying to have to keep telling them that my busy London surgery can't even tell me if they're receiving shipments of the vaccine, and I'm getting all my info from the sodding media.

I chased our GP on behalf of my son who is in the 'at risk' group (asthmatic tendencies when he has a cold) but also allergic to egg so has to have Celvapan. After over a week someone got back to me to say they were referring him to the PCT for vaccination as PCT doing the Celvapan vaccinations not GPs but they had no idea when it will happen. Not heard anything since. Also the GP's practice said they hadn't yet had any of the Pandremix vaccine in but were expecting it in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I think my son has just come down with swine flu (I think my husband has it and has passed it on, I'm still OK but waiting to see if I get it). My son is coping OKish but scary high temp earlier this evening, breathing difficulties but now improved. I'm considering swabbing him tomorrow and going to private lab for a test as would like to know if he has got it so I can forget about the vaccine.
Can't believe you are still waiting!
Me! 38+5 with high bp!
thanks I think I had just assumed that asthmatic children would be done above asthmatic non-pregnant adults and that would put dh beyond the 500 doses. Shows you shouldnt assume!

So dd should get the next one mid december. Funnily, she'll turn 10 between doses. Will ask nurse about that.
Inhaled Steroids on regular repeat reduce your immunity so will be in priority group.

The doses should be 3 weeks apart so they will probably rebook him when he gets the first.
Sometime this month I am told.
How are you handling the 2 dose thing? dd is 9, gets her first dose next week but no idea when she will get her next dose.

Am astounded that dh qualifies for one of the first 500 doses. The practice he is with is very large too and although he is on regular inhaled steroids, in general it is pretty stable. I think he was just lucky to phone at the right time, but that doesnt seem very fair.
