Small pets

Possibly silly question - re gerbils and vets.

My gerbil is unwell.

From my expansive google knowledge, i am fairly sure she has an allergy to the sawdust that was in huge cage/tank and it's infected her eyes.

(She's all black but has bald, white patches developed around her eyes, on closer inspection they're crusty and red and scabby. She otherwise seems fine, eating, drinking, playing etc)

She needs to see a vet to get some drops or ointment I think but my silly question is;

She is a small, nervous animal, will a stressful trip to the vet give her a heart attack or similar?

Is the vet likely to prescribe what she needs if I talk to him/her over the phone or go in with a picture or will they need to actually examine her?

No gerbil experience, but I would say they would need to see her. You can always try phoning and explaining and see what they say.
