Can we have a GP toy/boredom breakers thread?

I feel my boys need more entertainment Grin

They have a large 70x240cm indoor cage with 2 houses, some tunnels and balls and soft, fleecy bags for hiding in. And hay, of course, hay.

They seem to enjoy the empty toilet rolls that DS3(6) insists on giving them and nibble away at them (and their wooden houses).

They are totally ignoring the wooden football themed Grin chew-toy that we 'had' to get 2 of at insistence of DS4...

So, what other 'toys' do your GPs have?
Hammocks? More tunnels?
Do you swap stuff around?

Inspire me - homemade or shop-bought, all ideas welcome.

Now......two sows Wink

Tunnels - Hop In tunnels, (they can fasten together but we use one inside/one outside)
They have the plastic concertina types too
Hay tunnels

GP3 lives in his Hop In tunnel (there are 3 exits so he's a toad to catch)
just peering out like the mouse in The Gruffalo

Ours really like cardboard boxes - about shoe box size, stood on one side with various configurations of flaps open & closed.

We also drape/peg a fleece onto their outdoor run to make a kind of teepee/den for them which they seem to like.

I like changing things round in the Pighouse (the haybox is fixed in one corner but I can move the other things)
The look of puzzlement on their faces when they discover that The She Devil (that'll be me, then) has been bamboozling them Wink

I move things around too and they do seem to like to go exploring after a Big Cage Clean.

Hop in Tunnel, eh?

It did make me chuckle!

Had anyone ever attempted DIY guinea pig toys/houses?

DD wants to have a go this summer hols - she's seen a couple of things she likes but they're made out of heavy duty cardboard and she wants something more robust so we're going to have go.

If anyone has any suggestions re materials that would be helpful...I presume MDF would be safe?

My two boars love a large paper bag to hide in, they seem to have a strict rota for turns as Dougal hoiks Marvin out if he's in there too long. This week they are being posh in a Moss Bros bag but they normally make do with a Primark bag. Handles need removing to prevent strangulation.

GP1 and GP2 were given a banana box (large, low sided, sturdy) with a squidgey old pillow in fleece. I put a Snugglepad in the fleece.
Nice and toasty , I thought.
I gave them hay in a rubber trug with a cardboard lid.
Every morning, they were parked in the hay trug, peering up like two little RSPCA cases.

So my squishy pillow comfort didn't cut it.

Bags, boxes, tunnels, mine love fine cut paper shreddings.

GP1 was buried in a Primark bag ( he was in a Lock&Lock box for his own safety- foxes)
DD deemed this fitting because that was his favourite.
And YY remove the handles voice of experience

We gave GP3 a Superdry bag but he slid in, slid out and had a "what fresh hell is this " look on his bemused little face.

Stuff the empty toilet rolls with hay, mine hold onto the end with one paw while pulling the long strands of hay out. And they drag/throw them around.

I must stop trying to read things so quickly. I just read the original post thinking Pacificdogwood was talking about her children. Enjoying playing in a cage with hay. And toilet rolls. But I then realised you're all talking about GPs.

Don't mean to sound daft, but do you just lie the paper bag on its side so they can go in and out? Never thought of giving them that.

Yes put down on its side, I add some hay too, and the guineas will run in Smile

They like to eat their own 'windows' in the bag that usually expands into a new 'door' and before long its just a sheet of brown paper that they are hiding under Grin
