When do the 70 sows arrive?

That's 70's new sows not actually 70 sows - that would be too much Grin

Can we have pics when they arrive? And how is GP3 coping? Also he has his op this week. Sending him parsley hugs.

Grin

(Though I did read on a cage website that a 6'x2' is meant to be big enough for four guineas. My Pighouse is about 3 times this size, I could buy 11 sows + Dill Shock )

Plan Of Action Is:

Yesterday, I emptied the Pighouse completely -all the litter pellets, cobwebs [shame] and re-lined with newspaper.

On Wednesday, I'll empty it, steam it , then clean with Virkon . Allow to dry.
Clean the plastic/wire cage, rubber trug house and plastic tunnel.
Dill can have the rest of the Pighouse, his new girls can have the cage inside the Pighouse. So seperate but weeking distance.

We have the original run and we bought a smaller run for Dill, which once he's sterile and they are settled, DH will attatch to the Pighouse with a 'cat door' to let them have outdoor space that they can access when they want.
We plan to dig up the grass, put down wire mesh to make a 'skirt' sink in wooden slats to anchor the run, then re-seed the grass (this won't be needed for another 5 weeks or so)..

He goes in on Saturday for his little operation (I weighed him, he weighs 3lb Shock )

He's coping ok, but he's never been alone, so DD is keeping him in her room at night (he has a new cream fleece blanket)

Even if they don't get along as housemates, if he's neutered we won't have the panic every time he winks at them. But I'm crossing my fingers. We'll do the proper introductions in the paddling pool once he's sterile.

I'm aiming for a couple of sows (adult) but not Rex - DD allergies to consider.

I'll keep you all posted Wink

Can just imagine his excitement with 11 sows Wink

He will not be thrilled at having a stinky fresh pighouse. It's going to take him ages to get it smelling as it should after all that cleaning. Hope the op goes well.

2 sows are going to be very lucky

Can Dill go to the rescue when you pick out his girlfriends? Pick the girls that are interested in him and come up to the bars for a sniff.

From experience of OB I think boars love all sows but sows are more picky. For Naughty Girl the most attractive part of OB was his food bowl Confused Fatimus was his true love Smile

I have the steamer and the Virkon S ready for tomorrow.

He'll be parading himself in front of an assortment of lovely ladies and we'll see who can cope with a life of his non-stop prattling . But they'll be given a lovely spoiled life, so I reckon they'll grow fur ear plugs like GP1 did Wink

He was very judgey to find all trace of piggy removed from his house on Monday morning (and it'll need to be made neutral again when they all share)

Actually quite Sad tomorrow because although we're preparing for GP3 to meet his new cagemates, it means I will be eradicating all traces of GP1 from the Pighouse.

I can understand your sadness. A few days in our human lives seems too short to move on. But we must put GP3 first. A few days being the 'only pig in the Universe' for all he knows, will have seemed like a very long time indeed.

Naughty Girl stopped talking the moment she lost Fatimus and didn't speak again until she met her new friends, nine days later.

GP3 will be such a happy boy tomorrow. The wheeking in your car on the way home I imagine will be deafening Grin Glad to see you've worked how he can see the Ladies without damaging his teeth Wink
