Nail clipping dark coloured nails on Fidgetty bunnies

I always freak out even doing my bunnies clear nails but manage however try and not do their black ones too much (take the tips off at most) for fear of hitting the quick

One of my lovely bunnies has a claw - a black one - that grows in a funny way and if we don't catch it then it's a vet trip for a nail trim.

She's also one very Fidgety rabbit so has anyone got any tips to manage her claw care? Or should I play it safe and get her to the vets for her nail clipping regardless?

Thanks

My boy has all black claws and hates being handled too. I do them a little at a time like you. I can do it with him on my knee but only 2 claws at a time. I find it easier to get DD to hold him and then can whip round them.

Can you time his claw clipping with his booster vaccinations and get it all done at once?

If he has an awkward claw it may be easier with a vet (one of my Guinea pigs had this issue).

Problem with tying them into the jabs is that's only once a year. Her claws seem to need doing quite regularly (I believe that's the law of sod isn't it!)

I think I'll try it with DH holding her as he's not worried about squishing her like I am! (Don't know why I am she's massive)

I sometimes do it over 2-3 days just a few claws at a time. Then he doesn't have time to get bored and wriggly.

Good luck

Claws is a 2 person job here (guineas) DD holds and I cut.
But we do the 'back claws one day, front claws another' unless one is curling (usually the 'thumb' on the front paw)
