Guinea Nephews update:( :(

Hello all, hope you are all well and guineas are not getting too overheated!
Have not been posting as regularly, but hope those that I know are all doing well and enjoying these lovely long days to do some lawn mowing!

Sad news from this end, you may remember I am Guinea Aunt to two lovely boars, and a rescue girl, Boris (a) - sadly one of the 3 year old boars became very unwell last week, the usual signs, weight loss, drinking alot, not eating, dull eyes. Despite lots of love, critical care and expert nursing, he sadly declined and died on Sunday. His guinea mum was so upset, she is a lovely girl, who really cared for him and his brother so well. 3 yo is no age for a guinea, but sometimes you just'know' they are not going to make it, he tried so hard to eat and join in, vet did not know cause. Don't think excess heat helped.

The update is Boris has been moved side by side with remaining, pining boar, and they are keeping each other entertained with non stop squeaking and sniffing, and both seem as happy as anything.
Boris has surprised us all, she has put on weight, looks very chuffed with life, and has a very beautiful 'dulap' - that shaggy mane under their chins - she really has loved her new home and seems like such a happy guinea.

Love to all. X

So sorry to hear that - my boys send their condolences to their Auntie Guineapiglet. Poor little pig.

But glad to hear Borisina (?) is doing well and filling out.

Aw very Sad .
Yes 3 is young but I'm sure the heat had alot to do with it, they just don't cope well.
But I firmly believe when a guinea decides it's "time" you are hard pressed to turn them around.

So, Boris is a lady Shock that would explain the grumbling of the boars when she was rescued from her "don't need him" family.

Hopefully the remaining pigs can lead a happy life (like that sitcom My Wife Next Door )

'dulap' is that the proper name for 'double chin' Grin

A dewlap is something that lady pigs and bunnies can get. It's a nice fluffy cushion under their chin so they can rest their head comfortably for a snooze. In male pigs/buns it's called a double chin Grin.

My previous bun had a substantial one - she was a lionhead as well so tonnes of extra fluff in that area. It was her portable pillow.

Hi all - thanks for your kind messages and support - I do feel sad when another little soul disappears, this one was grey and white and had rosettes, he was really gorgeous :(

A couple of our girls had the double chin effect, one a ginger lions mane, and the other a softer, monochrome one, lovely to tickle when they lift up their faces with the bottom teeth looking rather gormless...

Boris and GN2 are having the time of their life apparently, cooing and squeaking to each other when food appears. Boris was utterly silent when she arrived so lovely that she has found her voice. And she is really beautiful too!!

:)

Speaking of gormless....
today was my DD birthday so she had a '2 Boar Wake Up Call' - I brought them up and popped them on her bed she woke to the sound of them prattling Grin

GPs are in the run (dirty stop outs) until DD comes back to catch them
I've just chased NDN cat away- GP1 and GP3 were just larding in the run glaring at it.
No attempt to hide in their tunnel Hmm

Happy Birthday to your DD! Hope she had a good day. It's my DTs birthday next week.

Smooth also thinks glaring at cats makes them go away. Scruffy has kind of become friends with NDN cat - they sit next to each other and he chats to her through the bars of the run. He also has a squirrel friend and a blackbird - very sociable boy Grin.

Hi again - happy birthday to all your lovely children, how lovely to have a guinea wake up call, what a fab idea. My daughter has just finished exams and as a treat was allowed to go and cuddle both Boris and GN2- and she didn't get wee'd on - surprise surprise - Love the tails of them making friends with garden birds and various assorted animals - ours were petrified of the squirrel at the end of the garden but didn't seem to mind the magpies and miscellaneous large birds which sat on their runs, anything better than all the NDN cats. One year we had geese in the garden from NDN pond - walking to the shed became quite treacherous, but the guineas seemed not at all bothered by them.

Was thinking about Boris and other lone guineas last night, and how strange it must be to finally see someone who looks and talks like you after 3 long years :( :)
