GP sitting in pee place?

I'm changing our sheltie GP's cage every 2-3 days. He always pees in the same place, he systematically clears the wood shavings out of this area then sits in it. He's a sheltie so his hair is trailing in everything (I try to not put too much shavings down as it just gets caught in his hair). Is this normal? DP reckons it's cos he's hot so sitting in damp paper cools him down Confused ...any GP insight that I can contradict him with?

Is your piggie moving the shavings?
I'd say he doesn'y like the shavings by the sound of it.
They aren't very absorband and they can be very drying to a pigs fur and skin.

Try newspaper (layers) , maybe Megazorb (it doesn't get stuck in the fur)

Is he with a cagemate? Is he territorial? Doesn't want another pig is his spot?

My boars pee and poo all over, after one day in a clean cage there will be several pooh nests and numerous pee spots (I put puppy pads under the paper to absorb, where they can't chew it)

And my GP1 pees , my GP3 runs through the puddle Grin so they do seem to like smelling of pee, not sure if it cools them down though Wink

I think you may have a point about the shavings; I changed his cage out today and realised it looked like he'd had a snow plough in their clearing the shavings out of the way...I'll try him just with paper. I'm also going to give him a trim, I've been having a look on youtube and feel ready now to bite the bullet; he's a right hairy mary, so hopefully it'll cool him down a bit...
