My hamster screamed!

We have two hamsters. One is approaching a year old - we bought him as a baby. The other is older - we don't know how old because we were given him. He's over a year old, and I know that hamsters usually live for a couple of years.
I've seen all sorts of hamster deaths over the years, but I have never heard one scream before.
The older of the two hamsters was asleep in his bed just now and started screaming. I rushed over and looked at him and he appeared to be asleep but was moving about, sort of wriggling.
Has anyone had any experience of this? Is he on his way out?

I remember our hamster sort of chirping when he got stuck some where but not screaming. Hope he's ok.

The only time my hamster screamed was when the cat knocked her cage off the shelf and rounded on her. That was also the only time she ever nipped me - as I was picking her up and shoeing the feline beasties away. I felt the nip was quite justified.

I've had a Google and it could have been a bad dream. I've left him to sleep but I will have a good look at him tonight when he gets up. Poor little thing - I hope he will be ok.

We always had hamsters as children but I never heard them scream.

I heard a frog scream once and that was a pretty terrifying noise .
I could hardly blame it though as it was being pinned down on the kitchen floor by our cat at the time!

I heard my little precious scream once. She was asleep so must've been having a bad dream. It's a pretty terrifying sound.

Mine made a bizarre sort of chirp when her ball fell off a table.

I haven't heard a hamster scream, but it sounds like he might have been dreaming. Hope he's okay. :)

Ours used to scream when we first got him/her. Was very scared. He's super tame now though.

I looked it up and it says that if they scream it could either be that they're very happy, or that they might be shy,

Our dearly departed 1/2 hamster 1/2 St. Bernard used to be very vocal when we gave her new food and treats! I'm pretty sure it was her way of saying thank you.

Our current male Syrian has screamed in his sleep. He makes a cheech sometimes, too, when he's frustrated with himself, like when he falls of his wheel or misses the door of his cage. He's quite vocal. He chirps, too, when he's moving his food around or eating in bed.

Our hamster screamed when she was climbing across the top of her cage, upside down, let go with her back paws, then one of her front ones and was dangling by one tiny paw!

My screamed when chewed into the washer machine water tubing inside and got stuck. It was like a high pitch screech😮

We got the little bugger out along with buying a new washer
