Vitamin C supplement for GP

Just discovered the Pet bit on Mumsnet! We got a guinea pig in November, we live in France and were told that you have to give a liquid vitamin C supplement in their drinking water every day. I get the impression that he doesn't like the water with the drops in plus it makes the water bottle go a bit manky (film develops on the inside, even when changing the water daily), so I stopped giving it. In all the English books and UK websites I've looked at, I've never seen this recommendation...I'd appreciate any experienced GP owners' thoughts! Thanks!

Bonjour Grin

I don't routinely give VitC -
mine don't drink water anyway, fussy little animals
their pellets are VitC enriched (worth checking on the package of what you give him)
they have plenty of veg

I'd worry about a thirsty pig who couldn't bear their water in hot weather (they have fresh water daily)

When my GP2 was ill I gave him Vit C soluble tablets in water through a syringe.

if you buy actual guinea pig food it should have it in it, or you can put Ribena in the water short term solution if you run out of guinea food and have to use rabbit etc. also feed them fresh veg like carrots and things high in vit c
