I don't have a lots of experience with guineas pigs as I'm a brand new mum !Smile Anyway, the boys seem happy enough but I have notice they had a bit of scabs on their backs and their ears.

Do you know what it could be ?

If it's on their rump it could be mites but I dont think they get it on their ears.

I would probably take them to a vet to get them checked over. How old are they and where dis you get them from?

Guinea pigs are lovely! Congratulations on your new boys! :)

they are 6 months old, I got them from a breeder. they want to the vet yesterday to have their nails clipped and the vet didn't see anything but yes it's better being on the safe !

Thank you sleepingbunnies

The vet didnt notice scabs on them? Have you seen them
Scratching at them?

One of my girls had mites :( bit of TLC and mite drops (which you can buy from wilkinsons for a fraction of the price! Exactly the same as the ones the vet will prescribe!)

Are they fighting? Some of ours used to tear lumps out of each other.

Could be one or more thing and most likely a combination.

Mites gives a baldy patch on the back (supposed to look like a Y shape) with the hairs snapping.
Scurfy flakey skin

But the ears sounds like it could be fungal (is there a white-ish patchy appearance?)

They can get ringworm which if you Google a picture is quite characteristic .
Lice - but you can see lice

They can 'barber' each other too.

Very Hmm at the vet not noticing though.

Look on the Gorgeous Guineas Website. They have some good photos and will give you a list of what you can try (and the sample bottles are only a couple of £)

If it's mites it needs treated as soon as.
I use a product called Xeno 450 as am all round preventitive but it doesn't treat ringworm.
