Rabbit hutch recommendations needed and warning re Pets At Home hutches

We bought a double rabbit hutch from Pets At Home last summer ready for the arrival of our 2 baby rabbits in late August last year. It started to deteriorate within months (stairs falling down, door bolts not secure, upper floor sagging) and in the last few days has gone beyond the point of permanent repair with one door falling off and the upper floor collapsing. It has been very lucky that the rabbits were not hurt or lost.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of sturdy, safe, rabbit hutches that will last for a while? Also, out of interest, has anyone had a similar experience re Pets At Home hutches? I have emailed them to complain.

It doesn't suprise me. PAH don't really do any hutches big enough for rabbits anyway, despite advertising them as such.

If you look at //www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk there is a list of suppliers signed up to their welfare charter who make big enough hutches. Ryedale is expensive, but extremely good quality.

You can also look on //www.happyhutches.co.uk and they are fairly decent quality, although you obviously get what you pay for.

We bought a huge hutch from our local RSPCA place when we got our Belgian Hare , and that was over 10 yrs ago . Its out in all weathers , we do little to maintain it and is still safe and strong . It is a very basic one level hutch but we have always had big bunnies .

Obviously need a hutch too but the tunnels really enhance quality of life.
