I posted on here just over a month ago, when our 2 year old Syrian hamster Silvestre was very poorly and subsequently died. We waited a week and got out new hamster Rodders on 9th April. I posted on here asking advice as he loved his wheel which was very noisy! Now this morning when I was tidying sons room I could here a clicky noise coming from the cage. I moved his bedding and it was him breathing - poor thing seemed to be gasping for air. I ran downstairs to phone the vets and when I came back up while I was on the phone to them, he seemed to have a fit and died.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this with their hamsters? We have had 2 Syrians prior to Rodders and they both lived until they were 2. I know it's silly, but I'm really upset at losing him so soon.

No experience I'm afraid but where did you get him from. If it was a pet shop I'd let them know as their other hamsters might be sick too. :(

I'm sorry your hamster died x

It was Pets at Home. I phoned them this morning on recommendation of vet. Vet said it could be anything, no way of knowing for sure unless an autopsy was done but didnt want to put the little chap through that.
Our other 2 hamsters were from Pets at Home, and they both lived to a good hamster age.

It happens sadly :( he might have been born with a metabolic problem or a Tumor and there was no way to know.

He had a loving home if only for a short time. He would have been happy. I had hamsters as a kid and I know that they may be small but they each have their own personality and can be a joy to get to know. Sweet dreams Rodders
