Old Boy Guinea Pig celebrates 6th Birthday Saturday 15th December

Didn't want to post this too early tempt fate but he has made it or he will have in 3 hours time Xmas Grin. It's been abit of a crap week to be honest. We noticed that he has gone blind in his left eye (completely clouded over) and I don't think his sight is too good in the other Sad.

So I was thinking now is a good time to look back over his achievements this year. As his biographer his finest moment must have been popping his cherry with Fatimus Pig under the dining room table Xmas Wink. Then there was the pregnancy scare in the summer again with Fatimus when I had my back turned preparing him a bubble bath Xmas Shock. Fatimus does love him. Remember when she squeezed under the girls' run and OB chased her around the climbing frame with her squealing. Oh the lady did protest too much that day. And yet still no pups. Hmm do you think OB is firing blanks?

Old Boy has had some health issues this year. His teeth have needed filing twice so 2 rounds of general anesthetics , anti-biotics, probotics and a blood test. Putting it another way, we are about £ 400+ poorer in vets bills Xmas Shock. And he mysteriously went bald from the balls up! The bald patch spread up to his chest and then stopped. We never found out why he went bald but the hair grow back just as mysteriously.

Old Boy is still up for trying new foods and after 6 years has at last started drinking from a water bowl and discovering he can't pass a mug of tea without necking it.

Tomorrow he is having a piggie party , the girl pigs will be in the old laundry basket so they can all see each other. Xmas Confused OB will be outside the laundry basket. They will have a medley of melon, shredded beetroot and posh salad leaves especially the red ones which he loves. He's had a portion tonight as well because there is so much of it Xmas Smile. DD2 will cuddle him until he poops. And I'm sure there will be photos of our special boy.

Well Happy Birthday Old Boy!

I haven't posted in this topic before but I have to join in because our old biddy Poppy will be eight in March. I've had pigs all my life but only one before has made it to eight, and that was in the 1970s. Which brings me to another point, does anyone else think pigs used to live much longer than nowadays?

Enjoy your party OB Grin

Party in full swing.. sort of. They've started on the melon and posh salad and now abit stuffed OB has wandered off to his hutch for a nap. We're cracking open the beetroot after lunch Xmas Grin. DD2 had a cuddle session with him on the sofa and he managed to control his bowels! Amazing! Or lucky Hmm.

Fredworm please tell us more about Poppy. Nearly eight is a marvellous age, bless her, she is doing well.

Thanks to those sending OB Birthday Wishes Smile

Fred WRT GPs ages-
I had GPs as a child (mainly Abbys) but a couple of Smoothies.
One of our homegrown efforts was a good 6-7 .Her mum was about 6 IIRC.

I've wondered if the more "fancy" breeds like your Peruvians, Rexs,Lurnkies (sp) have more health issues?
Certainly true of the Satins. A more beautiful creature you'll never see but I wouldn't take one on (joint and osteoporosis problems)

I do know that my boars are far more spoiled now than my pigs were in the 70s/80s Grin

Happy Birthday OB from GP1 and GP2.

He's had a rough year health wise hasn't he?
No doubt his party will include a mug of tea to toast his future good health Brew

Fortified - do hope the birthday boy is celebrating with style, v jealous of your party, hope you and the rest of the family ( human and otherwise) have lots of fun and all your lovely food is gobbled up and appreciated. So like a man to slink away and have a nap whilst everything is going on! He is a grand old age, cup of tea and piece of carrot cake sound great. My girls' treat used to be banana skin, for some reason it was a real delicacy for them#compostbins onlegs! Happy Birthday OB.

Oh I'm loving it here, pig-lovers heaven!

I shall post a pic of our old girl. She really is in marvellous health. I don't think she can see very well and she's lost her youthful plumpness but otherwise she's fab. But this thread isn't about her, hope OB's having a good day! Smile

All the food is a distant memoryGrin. The piggie girls very eagerly helped OB eat the goodies. I don't think he loves them that much Hmm.
