Male and Female Rabbit

We are collecting our new rabbits on Wednesday. They are 12 weeks old and I have been told the male won't reproduce until he is 6 months old so we have a few weeks to sort the problem out. We don't want them to reproduce so does anyone know which one of them should be "done" or doesn't it matter? I think the male but the man in the pet shop said the female. I may just ring the vet and ask lol

I would get them both done.

I know female rabbits have to be done due to the risk of cancer and i am fairly sure that a males temperament will be better without his bits too, not 100% sure on health risks in males. :)

See the vet straight away our 16 weeks old rabbits became parents two days before both were due to go to the vets, get them both done together as early as possible as when they are reintroduced they will not be so aggresive. To be sure no babies are on their way before the vets keep them apart but able to see each other through wire mesh.

I just looked at the Website where I got my GPs from (They are a local rabbit rescue but have some GPs)

They recommend both neutered- apart from the breeding risk (and they breed like rabbits don't ya know ) the does have an 80% risk of uterine cancer and males have an increased aggression risk if un-neutered.
Also an un-neutered male will still try it on with a neutered doe and get bitten for his unwanted attention.
I hadn;t thought of that TBH.

And they are sexually active from 12 weeks.
So you haven't got long!

Would echo what everyone else has said. Females must be done as there is a high risk of cancer otherwise - also an un-neutered female is more aggressive/territorial than any male rabbit would ever be (I had one and she chased people out of the room). An un-neutered male will scent mark everywhere and generally make a nuisance of himself. Also when neutered they are much easier to litter train which makes cleaning out cages/hutches much quicker.
