What cage for our Syrian?

We have him in a Ferplast Duna Fun, but think he looks cramped in there. Our space is not quite big enough for a Hamster heaven, could probably go to 75cm length, width about 35cm height up to 50cm anyone got any ideas?

House is fairly small so no other real practical place unless in DD's room and I do not fancy this. Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

This looks small have you got one? Length only 5cm more than ne we have got.

Have you had a look at zooplus ?

They do some.great cages for cheap prices.

The duna fun is far too small for a Syrian. Its more suited to a dwarf and even then only just. Theyes need.much more space than people realise!

Please get the biggest cage you can. The minimum recommendation by the RSPCA is 80 w X 50 d.

Yes it is definitely too small for our Hamster hence i am here asking what other people have got sonwe can get it right for him. We are going to take more of a look this weekend.

How about a bin cage ?

Takes a bit of DIY but very easy and you can make them to whatever size you want.

Oh really been looking at this today I think. I like the idea of a bin cage, but hubby wants a ready made one. What I really would like is enough space for a huge one like those made out of an Ikea Expedite they are amazing. Will take another look at the one you recommend bonkeymollocks.

What about any of those wooden cages you see any good?

I'm always abit wary of wooden ones.

Mainly for cleaning purposes, although you can get something called Plastikote which will seal it and make it easier to clean. I have wooden accessories in my cage and its a pain to keep clean. I just replace every now and again though i do have a stinky boy

Also hammys are notorious chewers! I know my old girl would have got through one of them in no time and it would have looked awful and scruffy .

I love the ikea home made ones! They are fab! :)

The cambridge is a good choice if you don't have much room at the mo. Cheap and sturdy. Have a look on the hammy forums. They have lots of reviews.

You still have wooden shelves though. You can.buy clear Plastikote though so a quick spray and it will stay nice.

Unless you have a clean hammy who always uses a toilet otherwise it will be fine.

That wheel is too small and would need changing as well but apart from that very smart! :)

I like the more 'grown up cages' some are just a bit too colorful!

Our hammy is in a zoozone 2. Love it....but its blue

Amazon sell it for a bout a fiver .

You can get all colours but I have always stuck to clear if I use it.

Really does make a difference with cleaning!

Did you see the gerbilarium? Would link but on phone.

You would need to cover the wire shelves with something. Cardboard or those bendy bridges to stop it being uncomfortable under foot hammy but its a good size and a good base for burrowing.

Yep thats it.

Its good because you could add or take away levels if you wanted too.

You can buy 'chinchilla' shelves on ebay that will attach to the bars, again Plastikote, to add extra space. :)
