NEXT- who are they targeting?

Is it me, or is the current NEXT ad on the telly just really bizarre
Pencil thin girl/women prancing around in bikinis in the desert and driving. They don't get near a pool till the dying frames and never get in the water.
Does NEXT really think this is a reflection of their customer base??
Who in the UK is gonna buy this stuff? (miami weather notwithstanding)

I hate Next..I went in there today just for a look..bright lighting ,horrible shapeless clothes ..Yuck..I am 35 but have never shopped there so it has obviously passed me by.

I would have said more like 25-55 age range but those girls in the ad certainly don't depict that.

God I hate that advert.

I never shop at Next, the clothes are normally badly made and fit poorly.

I used to love Next
but the last few years I have bought less and less for myslf
Still think they are good value for DS's though

Next go through very strange phases of being cheap and nasty. At the moment there is NOTHING I like

The girl in the advert is also in the catalogue and she is worryingly thin and the clothes don't look nice even on her

I haven't seen the advert but I went in today (don't usually but I know they do trousers for petite legs!) and everything was absolutely, hideously, unthinkably vile.

agree their kids clothes are good for dd though. NOt sure how they manage to get that right and everything else so completely wrong.

Out of habit, whenever i'm looking for clothes, I still go IN to Next and have a look around, but I never buy anything. Their clothes are all either really dull or a bit strange... There's nothing which is beautifully cut, or a flattering colour, or is classic but with some small quirky detail.... NOPE, two categories 1) dull 2) odd

And their website is really confusing now too.

Hate Next.

The cotton they use for children is a cross between andrex and tracing paper.

Adults clothes have been the same since the 90's. Only so many pairs of combat style pants and linen widelegs I need!

I agree with the kids t-shirts, they are really thin, they always used to be good quality and wash well, now they seem to be using cheep thin fabric which does not wash as well. I do buy the dd's trousers from next as they seem to be the best fit, i often look at the women's clothes but i struggle to find anything that i like.

I love the bright yellow dress on the add but i don't think there are many people that would be brave enough to wear it out and about (i would look very silly in it).

I like the jeans because they do petite fit

Everything else is awful though.

but they sell lipsy dresses! LIPSY! really cheap!! (still happy after buying a £70 dress for £14!!)

I like their petite trousers too - everywhere else is too petite or not petite enough. Otherwise, completely agree.

the website is BOBBINS. I've searched using perfectly reasonable search terms, for something I know exists, and it doesn't find it

I agree with ShadeofViolet. I only buy jeans from their because they're the only ones I've found that fit me. Don't think the quality is what it used to be, mine are always wearing through at the knees.

They do too much nowadays and IMO it looks a bit cheap.

deaddei · 09/05/2010 17:14

I only buy trousers as they do an xl.
As treedelivery says- only so many pairs of linen trousers you can have!

That advert is fantasy land, all grinning skinny hair women prancing about with cheesy 6 pack men. Where can I do that weighing 15 stone in Exeter in May ??? They would call the police.
