Wedding outfit - please help!

I'm going to my brother's wedding in the summer, and struggling to find anything to wear. The last wedding I went to was years ago, so I'm not sure what's suitable - dress, trousers? I can't really justify the cost of something I'll never wear again, so if I could wear the outfit afterwards for work, that would be good.

Trouble is, I never wear dresses (I'm long-waisted, so they never fit properly, and empire-line make me look pregnant), nor do I do frilly/girly/flouncy/floral. I guess the answer is a skirt, but what type? And shoes? I only ever wear skirts in the winter, as I can wear boots with them, but I'm clueless about shoes in the summer. When I'm not at work I live in jeans, so generally pretty casual, and the whole dressing up thing is a bit flummoxing.

Measurements - I'm 5'8 and size 10/12. Nice arms/shoulders, so sleeveless is OK. And blue is probably a good colour......but that's as far as I've got. Please, can anyone help??

You can wear trousers if you want - how about some nice white linen trousers and a blue silk or cotton camisole top and summery jacket or cardigan? You'd wear all the pieces again and it looks summery. Take the cardi off (or summery jacket) in the evening and show off the arms? Ballet pumps would be nice with it, or diamante flip-flops????

if you prefer trousers, wear trousers. You're tall and slim so I'm sure trousers and heels would look great if it's not a very Country affair.

very controversial, but would you consider white trousers and a slinky top.

these?

Can you tell this is exactly what I would wear???? I have a fab green silk camisole top from Coast that I have worn to death, it's comfortable but looks dressy.

So happy to see that white trousers and a slinky top isn't an utterly wacky and terrible idea!!! It's my summer staple outfit!

Thank you all for your advice and links. I had wondered if I could wear linen trousers, as I do wear them in the summer for work. Not sure about white (visions of small people planting sticky fingers all over them, coupled with visible underwear!) - would navy be too dull? Like the idea of a slinky top, and will definitely investigate Coast a bit more - not somewhere I have ever shopped before.

Navy is nice for the summer I think. Coast and Jesire both worth a look I think - I love Jesire, and Coast is great for wedding outfits.
