How do you wear skirts in this weather now black tights are too wintery but it's too cold to bare your legs?

I'm finding I'm stuck in trousers at the moment as I can't work out how to wear my skirts.

I feel thick black tights is too much now the sun is shining, but it's too cold to go bare legged and nude tights are just naff and horrid aren't they?

This is one of those issues where I imagine everyone else has an obvious solution which I'm just missing.

So, what is it??

It's not too cold is the answer.

(I used to work with someone who mae the ruling on this - when not to wear tights any more - but neither of us work there now! so I am making a punt myself)

More seriously, wear a longer skirt with bare legs and work up to shorter ones.

Keep wearing the tights?

Go for a coloured opaque?

Leggings under skirt?

I've switched to leggings and have the foot and ankle on display in summer sandals.

No, no no, it is definitley too cold.

I'd have to fake tan to bare my legs and I'm not starting that yet.

If your legs get goose bumps they should not be bare.

bare legs at the first hint of sunshine make you look like a mad brit.

I've just come back from Italy, everyone was still wearing thier winter coats, they thought it was still freezing!

Hmm, I think leggings with bare ankles makes my legs look stubby.

Fishnets too dressy for normal day wear, and then what shoes??

Oh it's so complex, this is why I'm sticking to jeans at the moment.

You can't judge by what people do in other countries - they have a different personal thermometer to desperate brits.

I remember waliking through Murcia in a dress with a cardigan and pumps feeling quite warm but determined not to be one of the bikini top English types and sat in the cafe next to local murcians wearing jeans boots coats and jumpers. One of them was a grandmother in full length fur coat.
She looked fabulous but I would have died of heat stroke.

I do bare leg but onlt with longer dresses or skirts. Can't bear tights when it is warm - itchy legs and sweaty crotch is no way to spend your waking hours

What shoes do you normally wear with tights and skirts??

Today is warm enough for bare legs. Light-coloured or caramel leather/suede boots are good. Better than black.

I'd be too cold bare legged now, I really would. I must have some latin blood.

I'm more more likely to suffer from being too cold than too hot. I'd be quite comfy in my tights still, but they just look too wintery i think.

Tocca, with tights and dress I usually wear kne length boots or fly wedges, both would look odd with bare feet imo. Surely bare legs requires different more summery footwear too?

This 'transition phase' is so difficult.

Once (if) it's proper hot I know excatly what to wear, but now is so inbetweeny and I don't want to be cold!!

I'm in black tights and black skirt today and a colleague commented (because she had dared bare legs).

The problem is that it is freezing in the morning and then warm later.

It's ok if you are just in an office (which I am today) but if I go into town later I know I will look odd!

I think someone a while back mentioned that trousers were the way to go for the transition period.

Must go and get some more!

I agree there is a tricky in-between phase but we are deffo past it now here (east mids).

I walked to school this am in crop capris, wedge sandals, vest top and light cotton cardi. Not cold at all.

My DC in shorts and dresses since Easter.

Anyway OP, if you are too cold then just stick with the tights!

Is it still acceptable to wear, not exactly traditional fishnets but sort of classy open-weave tights, eg the ones Wolford used to do loads of varieties of?

Cos if so, I think they look fine with normal shoes. I do tend to associate them with autumnal transition periods rather than spring, though. Plus, I know nothing.

I wear leggings under a skirt that comeson the knee or just above and sandals if it's warm. If the skirt is longer than knee length then I opt for boots and tights or knee socks that you can't see the tops off. I only go bear legged if I am wearing a long a-line linen skirt. The leggings skirt look is a easy to adopt nowadays because it's been done in the mags and is in fashion and it looks ok if you get the balance right, but I admit it can look a bit stupid if the styles not right ie not for smart look and it can look abit of a young look, but it does suit some older people

I'm in Scotland btw; I think it's even trickier up here. Tends to be less sunny & more random than down south, but you still get exposed to the same media stuff (adverts, sunday supplements, blanket reports of fine weather) that is convincing all the Southerners it's time to dress for summer. Leads to confusion, people in very odd combos right the way through to June ...

Am watching this thread with interest! I too live in Scotland and can't remember when last wore skirt! In Winter I tend to wear long skirts with boots and knee socks but feel it is too warm for that at the mo but too cold for no socks and shoes. Trying not to wear boots with jeans now but again sometimes too cold to wear shoes so resort to Next lace up pumps and socks...

i did have pink fishnets (for a rather frou frou outfit) for that intermediate stage, or those nude ones...

Have seen a denim knee length skirt, bare legs and chunky boot combo recently and thought it looked quite cool.
?
I am in the full length leggings, tunic and cardi combo today as all trousers in the wash.

If you really want to leave the opaques and jeans behind, but can't cope with the cold, then leggings.

Or the VERY BRILLIANT M&S autograph nude tights - the 7 denier anti-ladder matt ones - they really are almost invisible but make your legs look all nice and even-toned. I wore these to a wedding a couple of weekends ago and I am converted (usually am just a bare legs and gritted teeth kind of person).

I have been wearing grey opaques with a couple of skirts and dresses, but they don't go with everything. I always struggle with footwear at this point aswell - can you wear ballet flats with tights or only with bare legs?
I am not keen on leggings, they do not flatter me at all.

Argh 'tis a nightmare.
