Permanent Hair Colouring Mistake

2008twin · 10/04/2010 11:00

I have just coloured my hair using nice n' easy permanent colour. However I hate the colour as it doesn't suit me. How long is it before I can re-dye my hair with another permanent colour?

My natural colour is dark brown and have coloured a very light brown with a tinge of red. My hair is in good condition, with some grey though.

Thanks for any replies.

I would wash, wash and wash again using Vosene or tea tree shampoo, something that will strip the colour. Then in a few days, re-dye. Are you going to be using a darker colour next time?

I use a red permanent colour and find it fades pretty fast, really I need to dye it again after 4 weeks (so 12-16 washes later, I don't wash it every day) but I stretch to 6 weeks as it's such a faff!

I've had a bleach shampoo done at the hairdressers before...I have dark brown hair but 1 dye I used was practically black. The bleach shampoo was great, took out most of the really dark colour but didn't damage my hair.

You could try this stuff:

Colour B4

Their own website

I've used it with moderate success, but I was trying to remove many layers of black/dark brown dye. You might find it works well on you as the colour you've put on is lighter.

Otherwise, if you just want to go back to dark brown, you could use a darker dye over the top pretty much immediately I think. Do you not like it because it's too reddish? If so an ash brown would tone it down.

I'd suggest using a semi-permanent (the 24 wash type).

You're not alone!

I ended up redying it and it looked ok. I went for my normal dark brown. Now I get it done at Aveda and have to admit that it looks much better. Part of that might be the consistency in colour - I could never remember what colour I had used before when I did it myself, so it ended up stripy (horizontal).
