Dressed up, but not too dressed up-HELP!

I have a sort of garden party thing to go to with DH which is going to be a bit awkward as a woman will be there who got rather obsessed with DH a year or so ago. He told me straight away, told her he had told me, it still went on for a bit, but then she did back off.

He didn't have to work with her any longer fortunately, but she will be at this thing which we have to go to, and I'm so worried it's going to be awkward with the whole she knows I know thing! I'm sure she's probably embarrassed about the whole thing, but nevertheless

Anyway, being the shallow creature I am, my first requirement is to look fabulous obviously

The problem is it's not really dressy and I don't have much of a budget(£70), it's a daytime do and more like a simple garden party than a wedding.

I like quirky, unusual clothes, but not shapeless. It doesn't have to be a dress.

Any ideas?

Hi, sorry had to go out.

I am a 12, pale skin, dark red hair, tall.

I like wedges, but have lots of shoes- not too worried about shoes. I would like something striking, but not looking like I'm overdressed.
I know, I'm asking too much...

Could you do a maxi-dress and a denim jacket, with flats/wedges. Or would that be too casual?

If it is casual I would wear your best and most flattering jeans with a white shirt unbuttoned for cleavage and a statement necklace, or with a white vest top and a blazer.

If you overdress she will know why, if you under dress she will know you don't care.

Wow, thanks! I didn't expect any more replies.

I love the first All Saints one tethersend, but it is a bit too formal looking I think.

I had a look through the other dresses on the Fever site BariatricObama and love a few on there maxi dress and this one and favourite

PlumSykes and Redshoes, you are right, overdressing is exactly what I want to avoid, I like the maxi and wedges idea rather than jeans as I have never been comfortable in jeans [freak] and have no cleavage whatsoever
I did wonder about some sailor type trousers and a fifties top though?

I saw an Odd Molly dress today which would have been lovely if I could find (or bear to spend) £300 on it!
