Can you do heels?

MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 11:26

I can do heels but wouldn't even know where to start! Plain black? Pretty bow on the back? Brightly coloured?

How do you feel about something like these with black opaques?

Report
MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 12:21

ooh they are pretty!

My only requirement in a shoe is that toes are covered.

Just plain opaque tights? like this?

Yes, just like those. I know it seems plain, but I would keep it simple and classic.

I will look for other options and accessories etc... any no-nos?

its a lovely dress

if you want to look like all the other women at a 50th birthday wearing LBDs

if you are a size 6/8 and under 70, coudln't you be a little more adventurous? seriously.......

Report
MerlinsBeard · 12/02/2010 14:40

Ahh but most of the other women are likely to be wearing trouser suits or smart trousers/sparkly top (in fact i know a lot of then are!) ANd i am not very adventurous but thought i could wear again and again with a bright waistbelt or something?

Good God, Kristina, what would you have her wear? A sparkly party top?

Love ggirl's pearl idea... how about something like this?

Report
tethersend · 12/02/2010 16:04

Although I would tone the shoes down if wearing statement jewellery- more like these or these

I have seen that flowers and pearl thing in Primarni for £! so will go there ha ha! Means i have to go ointo town which means there are more show shops

I am liking the idea of nude shoes, but will they look ok with black tights?

Thank you everyone

tethersend - its not actually compulsory to wear either a LBD or a sparkly top and black trousers

Mom - i hope you find a outfit you are happy with

Thanks for the insightful style advice, Kristina, I'll bear it in mind

Who would have thought a style and beauty thread could turn nasty?

Let's not snipe... what would you suggest for such an occasion?

well as the OP has said, she wants that dress so that's fine. i have nothing against LBDs, its just that at such an event there will be rather a lot of them, that's all

if it were me ( and clearly its not), i would wear colour, probably a red or purple dress. i don't do pattern as I'm middle aged and norky so mostly patterned dresses look matronly on me. But i love it on others

i find that a "classic" look on my age and figure looks very boring, rather than tasteful. but we are all different

op, i hope you have a great evening

so you could wear something like this orange jersey twist dress or orange silk.

And black heels like these or these from M and S. I would wear black opaques as my knees are not up to it

so much as the Op suggested, just a brighter colour, higher heels and a dress/skirt on or just above the knee, not mid calf

since you asked - that's the type of thing i would wear to a 50th birthday. I will let you know what I wear to my own

I'm ginger, so black dresses are my friend and I'm just so used to steering clear of reds and oranges that I'm really not a fan of those dresses; but as you say, we are all different.

I like the black opaques and shoe combo you picked though.
