I need help with deciding what to do with my hair on 'greasy' days

I have horribly greasy hair which I wash every other day. The day that it's washedit looks lovely and gets considerable attention (blow dried/ straightened etc) however the other day it's a lank, horrible mess.

As it is long I tend to wear it up but it still looks rubbish (ponytale). Any ideas for fun styles that I can do myself that don't take forever?

Or even products that would help- I've tried various 'dry' shampoos.

Anyway, any help/ ideas would be good.

God, I need to get a life don't I?

I have the same kind of hair as you. The only thing that works is washing it everyday but with much less product.

Bum. Have tried everything but still end up scraping it back every other day. It would just be great to have an up do that looked nice or indeed hair that didn't look like it had had a chip pan poured over it!

Thanks Susie

Try a dry shampoo, they're great for getting another day out of your hair.

Why don't you just wash it everyday? My hair needs washing everyday or it gets greasy and I hate the feel of it then even when tied back.

I wash mine every day but I am a wash and go kind of gal - only use a hairdryer in the winter in the winter and even then it's a quick blast to dry it, rather than styling it. Surely it's quicker to wash it than faff around with dry shampoo, etc?

Yes, wash it every day. Use a gentle shampoo specially for greasy hair and a good conditioner - just on the ends, don't condition the first couple of inches.

Nothing hides greasy, except like whooosh says - a hat! and nothing makes you look and feel dirty like greasy hair. - I suffer terribly.

I use Lee Stafford Poker Straight Dry Shampoo www.boots.com/en/Lee-Stafford-Poker-Straight-Dry-Shampoo-150ml_14632/?CAWELAID=334484308&cm_mmc=Shop ping%20Engines--Google%20Base----_-Lee%20Stafford%20Poker%20Straight%20Dry%20Shampoo%20150ml

I tend not to wash my hair every single day as have scalp psoriasis and it flares up if I wash too often...

The other thing I find I have to do is rotate shampoos. I know it sounds crazy and is drives DH mad as we have 5 opened bottles of shampoo in the shower but I use a different one everyday and it stops it building up.

Aveda also very good as you only need a TINY amount and lots of water. Cheap shampoos are lethal if you have a tendency to grease I find as well.

I have never managed to find a DO that works in fact it looks worse if I put it up.

I always wonder how chic french women manage that slightly greasy look....

I tell you what I sometimes do. I use washing up liquid. Every few months. You have to use a good conditioner after. And I have been told it's not good for my hair - encourages the hair to be more greasy or something? but it feels and looks good and I haven't noticed it being more greasy after, so I ignore them

It just really seems to cleanse - to totally clean and degrease, get rid of all the build up that shampoo doesn't shift (and may even add to!)

Heqet when pregnant with DD my hair was hideous and i too resorted to Fairy liquid.

My hairdresser was horrified but seriously shampoo was doing nothing.

Thanks all- I too have to rotate shampoos or my hair is minging by the end of the first day. I would prefer to wash my hair everyday but it takes so long to wash and dry that I just can't always do it before the school run.

I might go for one of those wee felt turbans that old ladies wear and some crazy rouge- that should distract people

BabyBear, have you found a dry shampoo that really works?

I hadn't tried any for ages, recently saw some Andrew Barton 'Last another day' and thought I'd try it.... made my hair look worse if anything and smell of - I'm not sure what exactly, very sweet like a dessert

However, having reached the age of 49 I can just about go two days without washing my hair so long as I don't have to go anywhere more than the school run. The one advantage of age!

Good old Batiste Dry Shampoo, also are you lather rinse, repeating when you wash your hair? I can always tell the difference when I haven't.

i like Aussie miracle shampoo, but i have very thick hair & the less i wash it the better IMO, I wash it every 3-4 days & only use conditioner about once every 3 wks as it makes my hair lank & greasy if I use it more often. I also keep other products to a minimum.

Im sure i heard along the way that washing you hair too often actually makes it greasy. If you can bear it why dont you try leaving you hair for an extra day or 2?

As for hairstyles, what about French Pleat?

you kind of twist pony tail upwards, then can use one of those crocodile clip thingys to hold it in place.

Boots own dry shampoo is the best IMO- should be given out in labour wards, it's amazing.

Got me through the first 6 months of DD's life.
