Is it acceptable to wear

Wellies as everyday shoes? Right, so i bought a lovely pair of boots round mid September, but owing to the amount of trudging around and this awful weather, they are already wrecked.
I bought a lovely cheap and cheerful pair of leopard print wellies from Primark earlier this week and am actually considering wearing them as opposed to buying a new pair of boots.
What do you think? Do you think its okay, or a bit farmer? BTW i only ever really wear leggings, so...

It's a bit farmer.
Wellies are for snow, muddy gardening and floods- nowt else.
Get yerself another pair of boots in the sales.

I think it looks a bit odd when people wear wellies when they don't need to be!

...i guess i could use the excuse of the town centre being all muddy [because of building works]
I think sales it shall be. I'm back to work next month anyway, as my maternity leave will be finished, so wont be doing nearly as much walking

Wellies became cool because of the huge number of festivals in the past few years and people have started to wear them far more often. However, I think it's not quite right to wear them as an everyday item.

no definitely not an everyday item. Get yourself some comfy flat knee high boots Bound to be some bargainous items to be had in early January.

I wear wellies (lovely silver Hunters) round the streets of Paris when it is raining and wet underfoot. Never, ever in dry weather - that would be very odd.

ooh am most about silver Hunters, I have boring old navy ones - off to google silver.

Yes, to clarify, I would only wear them if it is raining or muddy or both!

Did notice earlier that now even Topshop are selling wellies, hmmm is this a trend alert maybe?

Do they not make your feet sweat if you wear them a lot?

Back in 1997 (gasp as mists of time part...)my toenails were horribly bruised add sore for a few days after spending three days in wellies wading thru the Glastonbury mud. One of my big toenails eventually dropped off, which was neither comfortable nor glamorous.

Mind you, the wellies were a cheapo, crap pair I bought in a hurry at some country goods shop in the village nearby.

If it is raining wear wellies. I have to wear my wellies, the Fly bargain boots leak really badly, I have treated them with waterproofing. I live in Scotland, and in the countryside, I think wellies are justified. They are not warm, I have insoles and wear three pairs of socks with them, and still get cold toes.

How would people know you were wearing them as "everyday" clobber?

They'd think you'd just climbed out of your mud-splattered Range Rover and were picking up a few bits for drinky-nibbles en-route to the stables!

I wear wellies every day for work. But I have my best wellies,my lovely comfy hunters for muddy non work wear.I do wear them to the nearest town, but not in a city-I'd feel odd doing that.

yes, when its raining etc, but then I would rather look odd than be soaking through / cold
if its just a shower htough then I have some flat leather boots which are fab. but wellies are definitely the best as room for thick socks too (mine are hunters too, incredibly comfortable)

wellies for everyday are ok in the country but not in the city, i think it needs to be snowing or really really pouring to wear them in the city.
