FUGLY BUT WARM

eshermummy · 01/12/2009 19:37

Right, this might be the first of a few queries from me this evening......

It was below zero on my school run this morning and I suddenly had flashbacks to last jan/feb and all that snow and I want to be prepared.
Plus, it was cold but bright this arvo and I thought I really should take dd's to the park but I detest hanging around in the freezing cold and although I have lots of boots none of them are particularly warm.

So what do you think of

these

or these

or even these

Granted they are all fugly and the last ones are a but reminiscent of Colleen in those moonboots but I am telling myself that these boots are actually going to improve my parenting skills thus enriching the lives of the dd's and therefore worth it

Now if you want fugly... see these puppies

But I feel the same - dry, warm feet and easier to get on and off than my walking boots, and much much warmer than wellies... But not paying Stella Mc money. Anyone got any suggestions

oh good god there is NO need for that. seriously.

these, these, or these would be just as warm (esp with decent socks) and wouldn't make you lose the will to live every time you put them on. goddamnit if you want ugly even these aren't as bad as your choices.

those sure is some fugly puppies - lacoste do some slighty nicer things in similar day-glo vein but I find the soles don't look particularly rugged and as if they might slip in real snow/ice conditions.

I like the Stellas but tis a lot of money and I wonder if they are not a bit too rugged - am not sure if they might be a bit too rigid around the ankle and so a bit uncomfortable for just mucking around in.

I like the second pair style wise - like wellies only warmer but then I am strangely drawn to the TNF ones because I think "TNF- they MUST be bloody warm and high performance, surely I can't go wrong".

But why have I never seen anyone wearing them? Can't just be coz of their ugliness, people wear all manner of Berghaus/ Milletts ugliness in the name of bad weather so why not these?

Has anyone got the North Face puffa boottees??

the merrell ones look like the only ones up to the hills, the wet and the cold... But eek at price . Thinking of these in chocolate brown

My husband would laugh... I'd look like I was moon-walking. Then again I'd have the last laugh being toasty warm

merrells cheaper ahve bought from gaynors before, they're good.

BTW - I poached the thread of Eshermummy... I didn't know surrey got 'weather'...

heartofgold - sorry but I hate uggs/all ugg-like sheepskin boot things with a passion so not keen on any of those.

suggy - I quite like the black patent snowjoggers but not sure about the sole being quite so box-fresh white although guess it wouldn't be for long! Also not sure whether the sole has enough grip for ice/snow even though they are called snowjoggers

snowjoggers do look nice and are comfy... BUT

they have bugger all grip and do that awful collapse inwards thing. avoid.

suggy · 01/12/2009 20:59

Yeah thats my concern with them - but I also don't want some that are too rufty tufty.

Oohh... thanks for that glitterkitty... Taking out of my asos basket. I don't think crocs would handle snow and hills either ? I need this thread inNorway or somewhere properly cold.

heartofgold - that gaynors site is too ace for words - I love some of that stuff, and I don't care if its fugly. Am regretting opening this thread, I never thought fugly could be so tempting.

how about these from Ellis Brigham?

I am trying to find the pair I bought in Feb this year for ski trip (which I then wore on return as it was snowing here too ). They are black fabric type but with a solid sole rather than ridged, trainer-esque type.

Back in a bit.

These are my new fugly but oh so warm and practical winter boots (first time ever to have boots with no heels, but being 6m pregnant is forcing the issue):

Think you may be overdoing the fugliness just for the park eshermummy

I know feel exactly the same. Lusting after some of these...

Report
heartofgold · 01/12/2009 21:19

if you have small feet these have a "winter grip" although they also have visible fur which rules them out? adult version, nearly twice price

Report
suggy · 01/12/2009 21:20

I think these are the ones for me

suggy · 01/12/2009 21:21

great minds... unfortunately I have hoofters.
