complimenting clothes, is this acceptable?

Hi there - I'm newish but really loving this board. Have a question, when somebody admires what you are wearing do you find it acceptable if they follow it by asking from where it was bought? I'm totally ok with this but a friend finds it odd as if the admirer wants to buy same or work out cost etc etc!! What do you think please?

I don't think it's odd to ask where you got something- it may just mean that they like the general syle and like to see more, not necessarily that they want to rush off and buy the same item.

Thanks - it's fun here! But getting hooked!!!

Our friend was wearing this very convincing understated necklace which looked very much like the real thing - but when asked where it was from it was Swarovski. No big deal, right? Other friend felt it was a bit off to question origin of jewellery. Not the most pressing issue in the world I'm aware, just interested in your take!
