Occasion: June wedding

Me: 5'10", 10 stone 4lb, olive skin, long dark hair, broad of hip, small of bust (typical pear) tummy not tubby but nor is it tight after 3 pregnancies in less than 3 years.

Dress: this one

Shoes: these

am feeling unsure, think I am just nervous about having bought such ££ shoes - thought they would go with everything but now think that they are too OTT to go with anything! sounds daft but they were so pricey that they make me nervous, if that makes sense.

thank you ladies.

Windy, what are your reservations about the dress?

I think part of my prob is that, after spending all my days in jeans and t-shirts and flat shoes, running around after babies, I feel slightly ridiculous whenever I get dressed up. 4 or 5 years ago I wouldn't have thought twice. Does anyone else ever have that problem?

also, what should I do with my hair?

BTW- no way will I upstage the bride -she is heaven!!

I love the dress and the shoes - wow!
You will look lovely!
at someone who could actually walk in those shoes without breaking their neck...

I love that dress (and shoes are totally fab), really nice for a summer wedding. You will look fantastic.

You're 5'10" and you're going to wear 5.5" heels? You must have very tall friends!

Report
Stargazing · 25/05/2008 10:18

bah, you can never be too tall. In my pre-mummy days I never used to let my height stop me from wearing high heels - why resign myself to a lifetime of stumpy legs??

Windy, what are your reservations about the dress?

stargazing i probably have very bad dress sense so take no notice of me!! the majority have said unninmously(sp) the dress is fab - its not that i dont like the dress all i thought and dont let me make you paranoid was that the dress coupled with the lush shoes might look a bit short - the dress is a lovely dress but going off the pic i initially thought it was too short-but in all fairness you know what will look good on you and we only saw pics of the dress and the shoes not together on you so you totally must go with your instinct than listen to an old hag like me

The dress looks gorgeous. The shoes are great and they will go with loads of things once you =get used to wearinbg them and forget the price tag! Bet you get loads of compliments. have you got tummy flattening undergarments like spanx? I would need them

The shoes are amazing and I'm sure you'll look fab. I share Windy's reservations about the dress though I think; it does look short, which for an evening reception would be fine but for day and for in church, I'm not sure.

Ignore me though - I'm just jealous because I'm only 5'2" so NOTHING is ever too short on me!

love the shoes.
think the dress a bit risque for the sort of weddings i go to. but i am large of nork, and short of height

Although I love the dress and the shoes, I do think the dress will be very short on you esp with such high shoes.

could you not just wear that dress for the evening and something a bit more covered up for the church?

I would wear my hair up with a really nice clip in it (or a fascinator but then fascinators are either a love/hate thing)

or you could wear a plant pot on your head a la SATC Sarah Jessica Parker!!

I love the shoes...not keen on dress. I think it looks a little...nightclubby. I think shoes that beautiful and classy can take a more structured less 'obvious' dress.
here for example

oh god. I am so confused now.

can't bear the thought of looking cheap or nightclubby. Didn't worry too much about looking conservative as bride, groom and most of guests, including me and dh, work in media and are a bit relaxed about such things, I guess - but I thought this dress would be pretty and summery and a tad girly - didn't occur that it might be inappropriate. Ouch.
