Would it be a unrecoverable faux pas to go out looking very Sienna boho circa 2004?

Because my gypsy skirt is about the only thing that's cool (temperature wise) for work yet covers my currently vile legs, only stays up with my big boho belt, and only goes with one particular top.

Unfortunately the whole effect is very Sienna wannabe from at least three years ago - and I work amongst trendy students. Will there be titters?

it is a dated look - can you modernise it with a v plain top and a new belt

wear it with a thin patent belt instead

and a very bright colourful top and/or bright accessories

im talking neon or primary colours, patent possibly

Still seeing gypsy type skirts in the shops, though.

Only thin belt I have is even older (punk studs!)

No neon or patent anything.

I am dated. Boho suited me. I want to stay in 2004 forever .

Oh bollocks, jeans it is then.

Although if I was really cool & art college-y, I'd wear it with the punk studs and maybe doc martens and ... something else. But I'm not.

I really haven't got the balls to wear punk studs with it - I'm 43, I'll be a laughing stock!

Have changed into khaki linen cutoffs and green tescos top - feels dull but safe.

Thanks though! I might actually have gone in boho style without the mn reality check.

The students won't care, obviously, though. They are young and crazed with hormones and think anyone over 23 is sooooooooooooooooooo old.

That is true. In fact, to them, I am wallpaper.

Mates in the office, however, can be harsh.

ooh also, Turq, looking at your books list you must try Laura Lippman. I think you would like her.

also student see everyone over 30 as totally ancient. So the punk studs will seem deeply ironic and therefore hugely cool.
Better to have ambition because , as i understand it, nothing in the world is worse than being 'lame'.
Go for it

Love gypsy skirts, I still wear mine all the time in summer! Wear it if you like, don't worry what anyone else says. Try and change the belt, though, try it with a different top, maybe a more up to date smocky one with a belt to hold it in? Or a vest top and cardigan?
