Why do lots of mums wear baggy t-shirts and 3/4 cargo trousers ....

is it a uniform or what? I am about to have dc3 (and already have two under 5) and am working from home for 2 days a week now so no need for work clothes. How do I avoid going down the slippery slope to comfort and not caring (wails)

Yes well I'm not going to buy them but what SHOULD I wear. Gok whathisface always dresses mothes up in heels and scarves but not v practical if you have three children (inc a baby and live in the countryside) even if they do look nice in the outfits

I just don't think 3/4 length trousers are very flattering on anyone except skinny women with long legs and small bottoms. The opposite of who wears them. She says hoping mojo is skinny

Cropped linen trousers are fab. They show off my elegant ankles brilliantly.

go on a focussed hunt for full length inexpensive soft linen trews in not rainbow colours (white beige black only -- plain no stripes or anything)

buy several pairs the same so you don't have to think about it in the morning

your life will be transformed

I agree with you re the purchasing of lots of pairs of linen trousers. I have a ridiculous amount of linen trousers (mostly full length) - they are so fab and easy to dress up or down.

I wear husband-esque polo shirts all the time.

I just don't prioritise looking smart. I do prioritise being comfortable.

Perhaps I'll make more of an effort once the kids start school (although the list of things that will be done when the kids start school is getting pretty long!).

I don't do big baggy t-shirts though unless I am having a REALLY bad day (ie once every 4-6 months), and then it is days I am not planning on leaving the house much.

I am loving the top I swiped from Psycho at the beginning of the week though - wide v neck, sort of batwing cropped sleeves (I think that is what it would be classed as), but long and fitted down the bottom 80s job - it seems to flatter me lots

As a general rule I am vest tops - dull but me.

Oh and I wear flip flops 90% of the time - I got sick of full length jeans getting soggy on wet ground, so decided cropped with flip flops and I just dry my feet!

I made a comment to DH about how UK men have a summer uniform of cropped trousers and bright t-shirts (sometimes football shirts), scruffy trainers and cropped or shaved heads. Just as he as getting dressed - in cropped trousers, football shirt and trainers that an elephant seemed to have slept on. He wasn't impressed.

Maybe you have noted the female version.

I possess no cropped trousers and only wear baggy shirts for running sometimes. Mind you....I possess virtually no clothes at all(as I discovered when I tried to find some summer clothes to wear).

Cropped trousers are for people too mean to have normal trousers taken up properly.

Or for people like me who don't like their pants to trail in puddles and like to show off their boots.

DH looks really odd in cropped trousers - he has short stumpy legs compared to his body and he just looks like they are a bit small. He goes for long shorts if I can peel him out of jeans (he doesn't DO summer).

No football t-shirts either since he doesn't do football - generally pale blue or white ones.
